2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ESP BAS WARNING LIGHT ON

The BAS/ESP lights pertain to your brake assist and electronic stability systems. One of the more common problems we find is a faulty stop light switch or a steering angle sensor. It would be a good idea to have the fault codes read. The codes would give you a pretty good idea as to what is going on. You could try to initialize the steering angle sensor first. This is normally needed after a dead or weak battery condition. To do this you'll need to start the car and then turn the wheel slowly all the way to the left, pause and then turn slowly all the way to the right, pause and return to center. You may need to do it a couple of times to initialize the sensor. The stop light switches are inexpensive ($20.00) and easily replaced. They're located under the dash at the brake pedal. When you get your new switch you'll see a little release tab on it. You just depress the tab and rotate the switch 90° to remove it. Of course you may have other problems. Reading the fault codes would be the best place to start. Good luck

ASB,ESP INOPRATIVE

All you have to do after replacing the battery and the bas/esp light comes on is drive the vehicle. While your driving around is will allow the steering angle sensor to relearn. That's only if it says "bas/esp see owners manual" displayed on the cluster.

Steering angle sensor and ESP/BAS

You must get the steering system scanned for a fault code that was set when the light was turned on. This steering is very complex and not designed to be worked on by a home mechanic, it is just to complex and requires special tools and training to repair.

Esp warning light and bas on

Hi there:
The stop light switches are inexpensive and easily replaced. They're located under the dash at the brake pedal. When you get your new switch you'll see a little release tab on it. You just depress the tab and rotate the switch 90 degrees to remove it.

Before to replace some parts, I suggest scaned the computer car in order to know other fault codes stored.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Esp light is on. came on after I removed fuses trying to solve rear spoier problem which i think is now ok. pasted mot yesterday, garage said no problem with esp itself

ESP will communicate with steering angle sensor. You have pulled the fuse for the ESP system so it has lost it's base settings. It will clear once it has re-learnt. Try turning ignition on then steer full lock to full lock to give the system chance to relearn steering angle parametres

Recode steering angle sensor

For recode the steering angle sensor you must connect a diagnosis scantool to the data link connector of the car in order to access the ESP ECU (Electronic Control Unit), in other words programm again the steering angle sensor in the ESP ECU. Select the steering angle sensor programming (learning) menu, and follow the steps: put steering wheel in straight direction, then turn steering wheel to the left direction less 15 degrees, then to the right direction less 15 degrees, put steering wheel in straight direction again until the programming was done. Then the ESP light will turns OFF.
