Got trouble code p0125. Car starts then idles way low then climbs back to regular idle. What is the problem?

When I start the car cold, it fires up and then idles really low for about a second and then pops back up to regular idle. Then when I put it in drive and have my foot on the brake, the car does the same thing, but sometimes does it more than once. After this happens and it returns to normal idle, it drives fine. What would be the cause of this? Would this be related to the p0125 code? Any help is appreciated.

I have a 96 Towncar, which had a P0125 trouble code set. I changed the thermostat and cleared the code - only to have it reset in a couple minutes after starting. The car was hard starting, and died several times before it actually ran. I did also noticed that while running the idle speed had risen to over 950 RPM.

I changed the Temperature sending unit located next to the thermostat housing, and again cleared the code. After starting the car again it performed excellently and did not reset the P0125 trouble code.

SOURCE: P0125 Trouble Code

Hello;
Looks like the coolant temp sensor for the ecm has started to go out. Test and replace, clear codes and should be ok.
Thanks;

High idle after having battery changed

This is characteristic of a reset to the EMC (Engine control module). If the power is removed from the car during battery replacement the engine/driving parameters are reset back to the original factory settings. Running the car for about 10 to 15 minutes about 8 miles will begin the relearning to the idle.

Hope this helps?

I have a high idle/overheating 1989 Toyota Carona GLXi 2.0 litre DOHC fuel injected. (New Zealand/Japanese import) I have 2 problems, and probably related. the car is overheating (heaters have stopped...

Check the hoses - especially all the little 10mm hoses that connect vacuum pipes, etc.
There is a device in the throttle body called an Idle Stabilisation Valve - they get gummed up, especially on such an old car, and with NZ's low-petroleum fuel - lots of additives in NZ gas.
They are easy enough to clean - look for a lead plugged into the throttle body near the butterfly - you can unclip it and pull it out complete - they are usually about 15cm long, by about 4cm wide.
Spray it liberally with carb cleaner and make sure it can move freely. If not, a wrecker is the best bet - they are pricey new.
Good luck.
