Lost keys Can anyone tell me how much a new key will cost for my 1998 Vw beetle mine was lost at a fall festival over the weekend?

Find a new dealer or vw specialist. They should be able to do better than that for a diagnosis.

You will have to go to the dealer to get new keys and remotes with the microchip and have it programmed and cut there. VW keys are as you know not like typical auto keys that have teeth and as such they have to be cut with special equipment. Your car will also have an immobilizer that requires a code from the microchip in the key or a key fob remote to disable the immobilizer and this is something that has to be done at the dealership as there are very few locksmiths that handle this. Rough cost estimate is $300 per key with remote and work done.

At the VW dealer but u have to take the vin# of the car with u which is located by the drivers side windshield. Hope this helps.

yes contact vw america have them run your vin no deeler will say no north american vw beetles have the immobilizer system on them but mine does still fighting with them i posted an answer to a simulsr question 1 get in thun key but dont start lock & un lock doors with switch ger out use key to lock and unlock door holding key to roll window down & up repeat on passenger side

Hopefully you are using the same ignition key you had before to start the car. This flip module mhas a chip that tells the system you have the proper key. If for some unknown reason the system lost this program it is probably a dealer only problem. The chip is inside the fob right near the key itself.

Get your vin # and go to a dealer for replacement. You have a chip that allows your car to start. I will warn you its going to be pricey.
