2.2 engine i have a son who ownes a 2005 malibu with a 2.2 engine has there ever been a recall on this motor. the problem is the wrist pin which is better fix this or buy a new motor thanks larry in alabama

You should contact GM. 1-800-222-1020. There was a recall on those cars for that issue. Recall #10183. It's the steering column that is locking up

i just bought a 2005 malibu maxx from a dealership. It was having a popping sound when i would turn the wheel back and forth. Had the dealership fix it. THEY said they replaced the ( rack and pinion ) for the steering on the car. Don't think there is a recall on that. GM had a lot of problems with that popping noise on their malibu maxx. Hope that might help.

2005 may have electric assist power stearing no pumps fluids or any thing just a motor on the side of the stearing column. check gms recalls becouse they have major problems with the system.
I also came across an 03 monte carlo that had power stearing resivoir way down on the back side of the engine by the fire wall it took a flexable funnel to fill it

If you have electronic power steering then the motor is under the dash on the steering coloum.

There is a recall on these. Alot fail at around 60,000 miles. Without the recall they want to charge you $1000 give or take to fix it.
