I have a 1993 plymouth voyager 3.3 v6. engine oil light is on and the engine is making a knocking sound? Oil and trans fluids are at correct levels. I lost power while driving. Please Help
Dosent sound good. Oil light on means you lost oil pressure. and the knocking sound is the damage done due to low pressure. Start looking for another engine or another van.

engine knocking sound like worn engine bearings or low oil level. if oil level okay more likely oil pump has failed or engine bearings worn out or engine oil diluted with antifreeze or gasoline causing viscosity oil to be too thin.if oil and filter been changed.if you see check engine light flashing code scan for faulty knock sensor. if you see low oil light flashing engine knocking damaged to engine done.
If it is coming from the engine, you probably have a rod knocking. Make sure you have the correct amounst of oil in your engine. Low oil will cause this noise. If it comes from the wheels, you need to pinpoint the location. It could me breaks knocking, tie rods, or your hubs or wheel bearings. Where is the knock coming from?
Oil light is for pressure, not level. A flashing oil light means your oil pressure is low. If you have a normal oil level, and the car is not making any grinding or knocking noises from inside the engine, you may have a bad oil pressure sensor.
you may have a bad oil sending unit the oil light works off of oil pressure i would start by changing the oil sending unit and if the light still comes on then you have bigger problems. get a mechanical oil pressure gauge and hook up and check the oil pressure after the engine has warmed up to operating temp you should have at around 30 psi but can survive with 10psi but might be time for a rebuild. if no oil pressure then you might have a broken shaft between the oil pump and the distrubuter. if the engine is running and not making any out of the normal ticking, knocking sounds probably just the sending unit though, they are about 25 dollars and i believe its right above the oil filter on the 6 cylinder.
may be the oil pump went! here are 5 possible problems--- decrease in oil pressure, higher engine operating temperature, noisy hydraulic lifters, noise in valve train, noisey oil pump. check the oil system carefully. to find problem.
If the engine is not making any knocking type noises, check the oil pressure sending unit. If it is leaking oil then it needs to be replaced along with removing the rubber plug from the connector and cleaning the terminals. If the oil light still comes on then the oil pressure is definately low and could cause engine failure.
This sounds like severe engine damage, do to loss of internal lubrication (no oil). That's the bad thing about 'idiot' warning lights, they come on when u have a severe problem, and the damage is done. You are going to probably have to purchase a used engine from an auto salvage yard, or purchase a re -manufactured engine. Sorry for the bad news, this is about as bad as it gets.
