Hi,i have a Jetta 4 tdi 2003. I have replaced the fanbelt tensioner for the 3rd time now,and the 3rd one is also broken now. The first 2 was pirat parts, but the last one was from the agents. All 3 of them have the same problem. The bushes where the small shock connects got worn out and then there is a rattling sound. What can i do to prevent this?,because i have to buy a new tensioner again

Seems strange to go through that many tensioners. Would recommend checking the clutch pulley on the alternator to make sure it is free-wheeling. If it is locked solid, replace before it takes out your alternator.

SOURCE: shorter serpentine belt on 2001 jetta tdi

Yes you can get a shorter belt and bypass the ac. It may be as simple as going to the parts store and tell them you have 2001 jetta no ac. Just keep the receipt.
You should also disconnect the a/c compressor connectors/wires/plugs also, try doing this before you bypass the ac first incase doing so gives you warning lights on the dash board.
Also know that the defrost setting uses the a/c so it will take longer to get the condensation off the inside of the window.

You need to replace the sway bar end links also, they get very noisy but appear fine when they are on the car. Cheap on Ebay.e9253ba.jpg

While driving my 2003 Jetta TDI last night accelerating up a hill my battery light came on and the car died. All other lights work, glow plug light still comes on. Engine turns over but does not fire. ...

Did you check the battery? Alternator? The 2003 Jetta TDI's are FAMOUS for breaking the alternator pulley right off the shaft. Is your serpentine belt hanging?
You could have a bad battery, broken alternator, broken serpentine belt, or bad alternator among a few other things. If your belt is hanging either the belt broke or more commonly, the alternator puller broke off the shaft.
It happens all the time with the 2003's

Hi,I replaced serpentine belt in my passat tdi 2003 and now I have a belt noise ,like when it is loose buy it is not.The belt that I have replaced it is a factory one,any ideas about my problem? thanks

sounds like the belt tensioner may be bad or the bearing in the tensioner and double check you have the belt routed through the pulleys correctly, and one more thing to check is the water pump or anything else the belt comes in contact with best to remove belt and check each by hand motor off of course.

2003 Jetta tdi serpentine belt

hi doug
im dave
there should be a diagram for the belt somewhere under the hood of your car usually adjacent to the emission (VECI) label near the rad the belt or on the actual hood
the tensioner is automatic adjusting. using a ratchet and the proper size socket rotate the tensioner (usually anticlockwise but youll be able to tell as you turn it) to release tension and slip the belt off of the alternator pulley. be careful not to let go of the tensioner while slipping the belt off or you will hurt your fingers!
