It is not making any whining noises what so ever and upon adding power steering fluid was able to make 6 successful left turns with no problem. I have noticed a small, very small amount of fluid on floor under the motor just recently, it it the seals on the pump, hoses? All this trouble just recently started.
Hello, There are some products which as additives will renew the seals if they are dry. You need someone to look under your car to try to determine where the leak is coming from.
There is a part called a "Rack and Pinion" which has the moving pistons that push the front wheels to turn. Sometimes the seals on the ends of this device wear out. Or you could just have a loose clamp on the power steering hose. Keep monitoring your fluid level as the pump will fail without adequate fluid.
This would be a part that a front-end alignment shop would inspect to do a front-end alignment.

Glad you had the problem looked at and fixed. That repair should last quite awhile and if you had the Front-end aligned after the parts replacement. Your tires should last longer and if someone mentions a 4 wheel alignment, it is possible for front wheel drive cars to have that job done too.
Keep the repair in the back of your mind for tire wear. Someone may try to sell you another Alignment citing tire wear. This would be old damage and you have already taken the steps necessary to correct that if the Alignment was done.
It is just common for people to forget doing a repair when a Salesperson is trying to sell you something. I am not sure of the procedures for delisting your ad. You will continue to receive Solutions for years and the job is already done. You probably have better uses for your time, so you might want to check with Fixya about delisting.
Thanks Fordexpert for your very intuitive response, the shop where I took it to I also used to work at several years ago setting up the daily mechanical and body shop repair schedules so I do trust the mechanic and the shop, they also gave me a good deal on the labor for the repair, thankfully all they did still came in under quote for less.

I had this exact car and I had all the same problems your talking about, The pump although I can't tell you for sure is on the left side of the engine as your looking at it. If it is whining it is because it is low on fluid, also when topping it off fill it to the full mark while it is running. If it is foamy turn the steering wheel all the way left and all the right a few time to help get rid of the air. You may have to let it sit a while to let the bubble escape, check and do this again, it could be a bad pump also. The overheating problem I had with mine was a bad temp sensor for the computer. It has two temp guages and the computer uses on to activate the fan as needed. I also had another problem with mine, on the front of the intake is a small plastic elbow for a heater hose and this goes bad. Had to replace mine. Wasn't hard, and the part was cheap. Hope this helps you!

yes u have a power steering pump that is engine driven and uses PS fluid, the fluid reservoir is black plastic, it will be on the engine most likely on the passenger side.

If power steering fluid level is full and whine noise happens after engine and trans is warm and been driven for a while it could be a trans problem. This make and model trans is noted for having a sticking EPC(electronic pressure control) solenoid inside the trans. The trans controller detects an internal trans slip and starts jacking up line pressure which makes the trans pump whine, it sounds just like a power steering pump. When this happens it will also start shifting gears very hard. Take vehicle to a trans shop and have them check it, there will most likely be a code P1811-long shift, max. adapt met. This code means the controller has seen an internal trans component slipping and has jacked up the line pressure to the max position and the slip is still present. Unfortunately this is not a repair that can be completed at home as the trans needs to come out and apart.
Hope this helps.

YOU NEED TO BLEED POWER STEERING SYSTEM BY HAVING LOW FLUID AIR ENTER THE SYSTEM.PARK CAR ON SOLID LEVEL GROUND SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS.YOU CAN LEAVE CAR ON GROUND BUT TURNING STEERING WHEELS BACK AND FORTH WILL WEAR SPOT IN TIRES.TURN STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT WITH THE ENGINE OFF.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID.ADD MORE FLUID IF LOW.MAKE SURE FLUID LEVEL ON COLD MARK ON DIP STICK.THE YOU CRANK CAR UP LET IDLE LITTLE HIGH FOR 15 SECONDS.THEN TURN OFF ENGINE.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL MAKE SURE ITS ON COLD MARK AT DIP STICK.THEN YOU START THE CAR UP WHILE IDLING TURN STEERING WHEEL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS SLOWLY TO THE STOPS DONT HOLD IN STOP TURN STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT FOR SEVERAL TURNS.STOP ENGINE CHECK FLUID IF FLUID TAN STILL HAS AIR IN SYSTEM.LET CAR SET A LITTLE WHILE TRY THE BLEEDING PROCEDURE AGAIN.THERE IS A REASON POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LOW CHECK ALL POWER STEERING HOSES AT POWER STEERING PUMP TO THE RACK PINION ASSEMBLY.

When u fill; up the reservoir means u have a fluid leak!
Did u check where could be the leakage coming from?

If it is a rack and pinion malfunction how would the car react to such? Steering to the left as almost nonexistent and to the right is fine? i was able to turn all the way to left and hold it today, with no weird noises just very hard to turn left.
Well It was taken care of day before yesterday, rack and pinion needed to be replaced as well as the outer tie rod ends left and right, replaced fluid and good to go.
