You may have to take it out from under the car. A lot of the front wheel drives are like this. Not familiar with the Kia but almost sure you will need to remove from the bottom.

2008 Kia Optima LX 2.4L 4cyl. - alternator replacement

The first video says you have to use a pry bar. On some vehicles you have to loosen bottom engine mounts, engine top braces and use a bottle jack to move the engine over a few inches. Car designers who aren't mechanics eh!

How to change an altanator on a 2004 kia optima

The KIA Optima uses a 12 volt charging system with an alternating generator and a frame-grounded starting battery. The alternator is a smaller unit with an internal voltage regulator. The bushings, windings and regulator may wear out and fail, requiring replacement. The average backyard mechanic can change the alternator in a KIA in about an hour.
Things You'll Need
1.Socket set
2.Floor jack
3.Lug wrench
4.Screwdrivers
5.Crowbar
Instructions:
1.Disconnect the battery's positive terminal bolt by turning it counterclockwise. Set it away from the terminal.
2.Jack up the Optima and remove the front passenger side wheel by turning the lug nuts counterclockwise using the lug wrench. Set the wheel and tire aside.
3.Remove or fold aside the wheel well cover by turning the small screws counterclockwise and gently pulling it from the retainer clips. This will give access to the engine.
4.Push on the belt tension pulley until the belt loosens, then pull the belt off of the alternator's pulley wheel. The belt can be left hanging in place.
5.Turn the alternator's bolts in a counterclockwise direction using the socket wrench. A smaller wrench head may be required for the tight space.
6.Pull the alternator free by wiggling it out of the mount.
7.Position the new alternator into the mount and secure the bolts that hold it in place.
8.Push on the belt tension pulley to give enough slack to wrap the belt around the alternator's pulley wheel.
9.Restore the wheel well cover by pushing it onto the clips and securing the screws.
10.Replace the wheel by tightening the lug nuts in a clockwise direction, alternating the pressure of opposing bolts. This sets the wheel better than tightening all of the nuts in a circle.
11.Lower the Optima onto the ground, and reconnect the battery.

The alternator job calls for 1.6 hrs, it comes out the bottom not to hard to do,remove the belt then remove the bolts holding alternator then try to pull out if more room is need you may have to remove the axle then it should come right out, hope this helps.

Do you have a diagram for a 2006 kia optima serpentine belt?

  • Remove and isolate the keys from the ignition so the Optima cannot be accidentally started up during the belt replacement repair. Remove the hubcap and then crack the front passenger wheel nuts with a lug wrench. Just loosen the nuts and do not remove them.
  • Open the hood of the optima and then lift the passenger side front quarter with a floor jack. Place jack stand under the front frame rail to safely and securely support the minivan. Leave the floor jack in place, but allow the weight of the minivan to rest on the jack stand. Remove the wheel nuts and then the wheel.
  • Remove the inner wheel well splash shield. Depending on when and where optima was manufactured, a variety of retaining devices may be in place. Some plastic retaining clips can simply be unseated by prying them with a screwdriver; others may have a small plastic screw which will need to be unscrewed a quarter inch to contract the clip and then be pried out. Yet other retaining devices may include metal screws that will need to be unscrewed with a screwdriver.
  • Locate the outer belt tensioner pulley near the alternator--in towards the lower front portion of the engine--revealed by the removal of the splash shield.
  • Loosen the center bolt of the tensioner pulley with a hand wrench. Parallel to the engine, locate the tension adjuster bolt (located on the tensioner pulley) and turn it counterclockwise to release tension on the belt with a hand wrench. Turn it enough to allow wiggling movement of the tensioner pulley. If necessary, loosen the tensioner pulley bolt some more to remove the belt from the pulleys.

    2003 kia optima battery light came on and headlights went dim and then out but high beams still work, dash lights are dim and the car still runs.

    The alternator has stopped charging for some reason.
    First check alternator drive belt is ok;
    Check dash 'battery' (or 'ALT') light illuminates when ignition on and motor not running- if not, check 'ALT' lamp is not blown and connections to alternator are ok;
    If all above ok, the alternator may be faulty.

    Alternator Removal

    what i heard that it is like removing it from under the car which is not possible without lifting the 4 wheels. Also you may want to first do this before removing the alternator, even the multimeter shows the alternator failed test. Simply go underneath the car to check for the wire that comes out from the alternator and goes to the battery to charge it up. This particular wire that is coming out from the alternator to charge up the battery is completely fused or burnt.
