Question about 2001 BMW Z3
OK, this one has all of the local mechanics baffled. Have an automatic 2.5L 2001 Z3. When starting from a complete stop, there is a metallic grinding noise (almost like the sound your brakes make when they need service) when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd. If I'm rolling at all, the noise doesn't happen. Have replaced the transmission cross member (attempt #1 - apparently it was cracked) and the central drive shaft (attempt #2 - mechanic thought it was rubbing). I can do quite a bit of work myself, but I currently don't have access to a lift....which means these guesses are getting expensive. Would like to get it right on the third try! Any suggestions?
