I agree with roseracin638. coil packs fail with age due to the many hot/cold temperature cycles they endure. they can develop temperature-dependent "shorted turns" internally, which which rob sparke energy. a weak spark will often prevent the engine from revving very high, and misfires will occur.

After hour or two car will miss, almost felt like a fuel/air issue. Then acts like transmissions gone. As I accelerate it revs and shifts. (transmission guy said its a newer tranny, not the problem).

there is a few cars that will rev like this that is the auto choke to some engines coming into play (mostly noted on a dodge 1500 v6 mag year model 2000) this is sometimes normal as the auto choke will rev the motor for a while or so before letting the motor calm down per-say as the motor is warming up

Air bubbles would not cause what you describe, the correct thing to do is to measure the temp with an external gauge. The sending unit is the usual cause, and pretty inexpensive to replace it, for diagnostic purposes...It is filled with wax and eventually fails....

You could try checking the EGR valve to see if it is dirty. It may be running badly at high speed also as it's harder to hear misses at high rpms. You should be able to tell by your acceleration and gas mileage also. Timing chain problems sometimes show up like this. Sorry I can't give you anything definitive but hopefully this will help a little. Good luck!

I don't know if it would cause the shaking and vibrations, but for the smoke it could be loose nuts or broken studs on the exhaust manifold -- when engine is cold check each of the nuts (there should be 8) to see if they are loose or missing/broken; you may have to remove a heat-shield in order to gain access

The rev limiter won't allow it to rev above 4000 in park. Will it go above 4000 on the road. Does it miss at ldle or under a load.
