Front Doors Won't Open?

Hi - I have a 1997 Hyundai Sonata Sedan. The front doors have suddenly refused to open. All four doors can lock and unlock, but only the rear doors will open?. Is there something that relates to only the front doors that needs attention/repair?. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!. Thanx

I have the same problem with my '98, but I don't have power locks, so it's not a fuse problem...any suggestions would be great!

Hyundai sonata have small spring about 3 cms long which corrodes and brakes. When this happens you cannot open the front two doors. you have to unfortunately cut a hole in the door trim and open the door by realeasing the latch with hand and then replace the spring.

Doors not opening even if they are unlocked

My 2009 Sebring does the same thing occasionally but only the drivers door gets stuck (dead locked - even though the locks appear to pop up).
The solution I have found once this happens is:
1) The car needs to be driven (crawl in thru the passenger door) -even just a short distance
2) Engine shut off & doors locked with remote (after you've exited from the passenger door of course)
3) Leave turned off for 10 minutes
4) Doors will now open when unlocked with the remote

My front doors won't open on 1997 toyota avalon

The door gaskets could be frozen to the body, or you could have ice in the door latches.
Can you drive the car into a warm garage ?

Doors will not open

Both doors with both inside and outside handles? Are the handles broke. You will have to remove the door panels with the doors shut to get to the latch to open the doors. This is kind of tough with the seat in the way but you can do it.

Hyundai 2002 sonata,,,, car has power locks.

You are correct in your assumption about a relay... there are two relays. One is for 'LOCKING' the other is for 'UN-LOCKING.' They are both labeled as "LOCK" relays (1 & 2). You can verify if a relay is bad by swapping one with the other. If the problem moves to 'unlocking' the doors, but will NOW LOCK - the relay is bad. If not, further troubleshooting is necessary.

Central locking

Resolving this problem will require removing the door panel in question, and checking for voltage at the solenoid when the unlock button is pressed.
If there is 12V at the positive wire to the solenoid, but the door does not attempt to unlock, you must replace the solenoid.
Doors are not fused individually, so the fact the other doors are operating properly rules out fuses.
Remove the door panel, and check for voltage - if there is no voltage, the wiring is suspect. This would require more in-depth troubleshooting - checking wires for continuity to ground, and overall continuity.
Start with the door. Re-post your findings and I can help you additionally.
