I NEED TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR- WHERE IS THAT ON VAN?

Someone at my work checked my computer ( engine light on, car running rough)- and it indicated that I needed a crankshaft position sensor. Where is it, is it hard to replace on this vehicle? A friend of my co-worker said he'd do the work, plus include the part for $ 176.00. But is this something that a non mechanic could do?

ITS LOCATED NEXT TO THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY . ITS A SIMPLE MATTER OF TAKING OUT THE OLD AND PUTTING IN THE NEW.

SOURCE: Check engine light won't go away

i read it could be the mass air flow sensor and or faulty spark plugs. also be sure to check all the little vaccum hoses for cracks.

SOURCE: Do I need to replace the crank positioning sensor?

the sensor is not to hard to change takes an experienced mechanic a little less tan an hour if it does not brake. it really doesn't hurt your car to run with a faulty sensor but if the sensor competly craps out your car probably won't start i would get it repaired if i were you so your not stranded some where.

SOURCE: Car running rough and stalling

I had the same problem with my dodge neon. Its your transmission slipping. My car had to have all the transmission flushed and it helped alot, but the longer you let it go, the damage could be permanent.

SOURCE: Engine warning light on Mazda MPV 2002

There seem to be 4 sensors along the way in the air intake and emissions system.

My Check Engine light indicated a bad sensor 1, bank 2 code (I think).

I had my mechanic replace the sensor that was indicated as faulty... cost = $191.

Then the Check Engine light came on again (with a different code), and I had to leave the van with him all day.

Cost to replace and install that sensor = $115.

My advice: if the Check Engine light stays on *AND* your vehicle is riding rough, get it fixed.

Otherwise, put a piece of tape over that Check Engine light and save a couple hundred dollars!

Hope this helps, I do trust my mechanic fully.

SOURCE: replace crankshaft position sensor

Go to your local auto parts store and by a manual. It will tell you where it is.

2002 Nissan Quest 3.3L P1336 and P0325

Based on that P1336 code, it's possible you have physical damage to, or missing "rotor teeth" on your engine crankshaft. The crankshaft rotor has a certain number of "teeth" to count, so the crankshaft position sensor can track the degree of rotation on the crankshaft to know which cylinder(s) is on TDC.

I'm wondering if the P0325 code for the knock sensor circuit is related to the P1336..so your plan to check the wiring is good. Another possibility, if your charging system checks out okay, is your distributor. A bad/failing distributor can cause the P1336 as well.

I'll dig around and see if I can find a wiring diagram for the crank sensor circuit.

Engine runs fine until temp reaches 100 deg then idels and runs very rough until cuts out .any ideas what sensor it could be?

It could be the temperature sensor , crankshaft position sensor or ignition module , It could be the ECM /PCM - engine computer etc. Rather then replace a bunch of parts that don't need to be replaced take it an have it diagnosed at A ASE certified repair shop .

Where is my crankshaft position sensor at on my 3.4 2000 pontiac montana

To me it sounds more like a TPS (throttle positioning sensor) switch has gone bad and is located on the throttle body.

2005 venture van misses when you,re at cursing speed. stalls out when stopping at a stop light. hooked up to a tester and it showed a bad crankshaft sensor. put one in and did'nt solve the problem

I guess I should start by saying the code did not say the sensor was bad. It probably said the sensor signal was out of range.
If replacing the sensor fixed the code but the engine still runs rough and stalls, it could be a leaking injector or a problem with the throttle body.
You would need to know which cylinder is causing the miss.

My 2004 Santa Fe had he check engine light come on several times in the past week. It started to run rough, like it was going to stall, then the check engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic. ...

Probably not a glitch but an possible issue with the crankshaft position sensor intermittently losing its signal to fire the coils. The crank sensor should be ohmed out when the vehicle is warmed up and when it is cold just to verify that it stays with in operating specifications. If it does not then it will need replaced.

Jeep Grand Cherokee engine sounds like it's missing

i think your barking up the wrong tree here,it sounds like it needs the computer on it and someone to drive whilst the other person monitors it or a rolling road. Its all very well changing this sensor or that one but without knowing exactly you could waste more money than what it would cost putting it into a dealer with mechanics with product knowledge

2000 Montana van dies while running

before u replace any parts u need to have the electronic engine control tested for trouble codes, this is the 1st thing that any shop does to know where to start the repair and diagnosis. Most likely u have a defective crankshaft position sensor, but have the test run..
