if your talking bout check engine light or ses meaning service engine soon light is blinking u have a cylinder that isn't firing, usually cause by ignition coil, but fuel injector, crank sensor can cause it but most times its a coil u can stop at any auto parts store get the check engine light read

I am currently working on the same car, the one im working on is a K though (wagon), but same engine. What I found the issue to be is a bad fuel line.

Code 24 will stay for 50 or so starts, but 52 is indicating a rich mixture. Possible oxygen sensor faulty. Clean connectors on oxygen sensor, and clean and check map sensor connection as well. Stop at an Autozone or Pep boys or similar parts store and they will scan and erase codes for you. Then see if code returns.

How about a temperature sensor? If it's faulty it could be sending the wrong messages to your computer and your dash light.

The flashing check engine light would mean that the engine is misfiring, If you have a scanner, use it on the diagnostic port of the engine to check for the error code to get which cylinder is misfiring and if there are other errors that needs to be checked.

Hello doncoth...very low mileage for an 88 aries and i doubt that anything serious is going on.
In 88 these engines were carbureted, not fuel injected & majority of the stalling problems were fuel system related on these cars,
like a broken or split vacuum hoses allowing air to be sucked into the intake manifold. Unmetered air changes the fuel mixture, and can cause a stalling problem..
Since the check engine light is coming on we need to find out what the trouble codes are.
To get the codes, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the "run" position until all the dash lights come on (DO NOT START) Have your paper and pen ready to take notes.
Turn key back "off",then to "run" again,"off" again and then back to "run " and leave it there.....The check engine light will begin flashing....It will flash a 2 digit code....For instance,2 blinks followed by a pause,then 1 more blink would be code "21"....The last code displayed will be 55 (test is over) From that information we can determine the cause of the condition. If You can take a picture of the face of the radio it might help.

The codes can be pulled from this car by turning the key to off on off on off on then on the forth time leave the key in the on position and observe the check engine light it will blink in two number codes for example 3 blinks then a pause and 2 more blinks would mean code #32. These codes for a 95 2.5 should be the same for your 88.
