I have a 2000 Lincoln LS and the Engine Light came on. Resulted in Codes 0171 0174 System Lean. What does that mean? What needs to be fixed?

You probably have a vacuum leak. check all your hoses pcv hose for sure. it means the engine is seeing too much air with the fuel.

Lincoln LS V8 2003 car engine light on and starts to over heat when starting the car after 10 min it raises higher and getting hot but turn off the car for 10 min and drive again it is fine nothing seems...
Light on means codes are stored. There are well over 800 possible codes so guessing is a waste of time. Overheating could be caused by a radiator fan issue. But keep driving it like that and you'll soon be looking a a MAJOR repair for blown head gaskets. Overheating is #1 cause of gasket problems.

rarely will I ever see an failed O2 cause anything but bad gas milage and a check engine light

More likely would be bad spark plugs/wires and/or maintenance items like a fuel filter

sound like a faulty engine coolant sensor. if the computer gets a signal that the engine is overheating it goes into protection mode and shuts the engine off to prevent damage. have it scanned for fault codes. mike
