Car started to sound like a Harley! I changed the oil 1200 miles ago. CAT conv. is new as of June 2011. past 3 days it has started the rough idle, and "sputter" like behavior. I reset the code to see if it came back after replacing all 5 plugs. Still have the misfire code...Not sure where to go from here. 145,000 miles 2002 2.435 ltr 5cyl
I have a bad feeling. I own a Volvo SW XC70 and I had to change the timing belt because I didn't want to have to buy a new engine. I changed it at around 150K miles. The belt is a composite and is not a chain (metal), so it can stretch, thus giving you "bad" timing and making it impossible to tune. If you have not checked or changed the belt, try it. It really won't cost that much (depending on where you take it. I went to Volvo. Good luck.
DON'T DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL YOU ARE SURE.
Timing belt was changed in August. Just as regular maint.

This will help.
Thanks.
Trouble Code Conditions:
Engine runtime 3 seconds, engine speed change under 1200 rpm, and the PCM detected a misfire condition present in one cylinder during the 200 (Catalyst) or 1000 revolution (Emission) test range.Note: If the misfire is severe, the MIL will flash on/off on the 1st trip!
Possible Causes:
P0303....Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0304....Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
sounds like a new set of HT leads and plugs wouldnt go amiss(fire wires) weird name that fire wires HT stands for high tension leads in proper english .
