Check battery, for correct charge level, are you getting gas ,how about fire to the spark plugs?
I don't know about that year,(to new),but 1988,and some later models
have a module in the distributor that sometimes goes out ,and are heat sensitive if this is the problem you won't
get fire to the plugs untill you change it BEWARE!!!,
the last one i bought,i think was about $64.00
that has been a while so make sure before you run out and buy one!
I hope this helps

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE security system wont let car start

first most GM OEM systems will need to recognize the key first and foremost ,to do that you will need to roll window down on driver door, turn the key to the run position and with engine NOT running leave the key on for 10 minutes exactly ..then turn ignition off then try to start engine. if original system is working engine should start normally

Whatever happened, the engine computer sensed it and turned on the light. You will have to have the computer scanned for the trouble codes- a tech or mechanic could then follow the codes to find the problem.

If you have a stick shift there is a switch usually on top of the clutch pedal that has to make contact in order to turn engine over. I would check that first.

I don't know beans about automatice transmissions and the average person can only check the fluid levels and take it to a transmission shop if it is more serious.
As far as the engine goes, you need to localize the problem because with the other indications it might not be the normal stuff. So, what I would recommend is that you take the serpentine belt off and try to turn the crank with a large wrench (CW only) with the car in neutral. If you can turn it, then it is probably not your engine freezing up. If it won't turn then the transmission is probably not disengaging from the flywheel - maybe the torque converter.

If it does turn over, then you can put the belt back on and try to jump start the car with another vehicle or the boost function on a battery charger. It it starts then you know to look at the charging system - battery, alternator. If it doesn't start then the starter or the starter reley.

My first thought would be: If you repaired an emissions hose, take the car back to Auto Zone (or another parts supplier) and let them tell you what code comes up now. You eliminated one problem, now you have to find another.
I wouldn't do a fuel pump without more information.
