How to change spark plugs in a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire GT

Possible valve guide seals are leaking motor oil. The motor oil on the spark plugs can cause a misfire and a loss of power.

there is a crank position sensor that is located behind the harmonic balancer. sound like you have a bad one

You all really need to get more specific. You've just got a situation here, no question.
The fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump, inside the fuel tank.
Spark plugs are easy.

WITH 5/8 SOCKET AND THE RACHET PULL THE WIRES OFF ONE BY SO YOU WILL NOT MISS UP THE FIRING ORDER OF GETTING THE WIRES CROSS UP SET THE ON THE GAP THAT THEY SUPPOSE TO GO ON BUY THEM PRESET ,ANDBUY A SPARK GAPPER TO CHECK THEM ANY WAY , WITH A DIME A COIN THAT IS .........

most of the time its not a bad spark plug its a bad spark plugb wire or coil

did you just replace the plugs or replace ignition wires, rotor, and cap (or) ignition coils if applicable? and you check whether its fuel or spark problem by running the engine and taking the plug wire off the spark plug and seeing if there is spark and noting any change in the engine, if the engine runs rough(er) or stalls then you know there is no problem spark related with that cylender, if no change occours when you take the plug wire off the plug then you know there is either a no spark condition (you will be able to see if this is the case) or if there is spark and it is a fuel problem. self explanatory, if everything you test for passes then you probably have internal engine damage. recommended that you use rubber grip pliers when you take the plug wires off while the engine is running, do not ground yourself. first you take off the 4 bolts that are on the top of the engine. then unplug the wire harness on the right side. after those two things are done first, the pull up on the cover that you just unbolted and the boots should pop off the spark plugs. if a boot stays on the spark plug just pull it off and put it back on the bottom of the cover. take out your old spark plugs, put in the new. then follow the steps in reverse order.

Check for vacuum leaks. Fuel filter clogged? Check spark plug wires and make sure spark plugs are gapped correctly. Get fuel injection cleaned.
