Gauge cluster volt gauge goes crazy drops down to 0 but all charging system is fine

Volt gauge drops to 0 but I can tap on cluster & it comes back up to normal & every once in a while the low fuel light will come on as well but like I said if I tap on cluster it goes out as well. I took dash apart & traced down wires & fuse panel & every thing looks fine no loose or corroded wires I also took gauge cluster out but could not see any thing there either, now my oil pressure gauge is at 0 & still having same issue with volt gauge plus same issue with low fuel light & same issue with dash lights when I turn dash lights on gauge cluster goes haywire (temp gauge goes all the way up & my indicator lights on dash light up & volt gauge drops to almost 0) I changed light switch no change. Please Help. I am lost.

You will need to remove the instrument cluster and send it in for repair, the problem is due to either a defective circuit board or a logic IC. Check the web for a repair site, there are many of them. Average cost for this service around 250 US $.

The problem is in the instrument cluster. There is an inverter that switches 12 VDC to 100 VAC to power the fluorescent backlight of the gauges. The inverter is mounted on the back of the gauges, underneath the printed circuit board. You cannot buy this inverter (maybe ebay?), but if you get one from a used cluster, you can replace it. SOURCE: Instrument cluster is going crazy on my 2003 Isuzu

It may have a faulty cluster. Or possibly could have a charging system problem.
Take it to a dealer and have it scanned for codes.
The instument cluster is a module that can store trouble codes. If the cluster is at fault the new one will have to be programmed to the vehicle to work correctly.

Have a 1991 Buick regal,it stops charging wen I plug in temp/fuel gauge into the cluster, why would it do that?

Does it stop charging or the light just comes on/gauge goes down? Plug it in and check if the alternator is putting out 13+ volts. It could be a short in the cluster or the wire from the alternator.

I have a 2000 chevy cavalier. The cluster started acting up. When I stop like at a red light the temperature gauge drops and the theft light, check gauges light, and service light comes on. When I give it...

I'd have to check your charging system, at idle. Any applicable trouble codes? At idle, I'd want to see the generator out-put over 13 volts, hopefully, much over.
You may want to check instrument cluster wiring connector for good voltage and ground?
Check belt for generator, correct tension? Just my opinion.

Does the ECM control the MPH gauge?

well yes but no,the speedometer signal comes from speed sensor in the transmission then goes through the ecm/pcm via the tcm (transmission control module, then on to your speedo,if the speed sensor goes bad usually the speedometer will work crazy if not at all also the instument clusters also go bad causing failure too find a new tech dude

I HAVE A 1994 BUICK REGAL,WHEN I START THE VEHICLE THE AMP GAUGE STAYS AT ABOUT 6 VOLTS,AND THEN I TURN ON THE PARKING LIGHTS AND IT GOES TO NORMAL ABOUT 14,I TURN OFF THE PARKING LIGHTS AND IT STAYS ON...

replace the voltage regulator
amp gauges read amps or current flow
volte gauges read volts so if the volt gauge reads 6 with the engine running indicates that the regulator is not coming into service until the battery voltage drops and that triggers the regulator
an accredited auto electrician will be able to test the complete charging system and advise on the fault

Instrument panel went dead

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task). This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).

Intermitent problem with alternator not charging. 1998 Cherokee 6

2 possibilities, a bad wire somewhere (a break in wire) that's causing this, or a defective gauge. How often does it go to 0 volts? If you put a load on system when it drops to 0 volts (lights on, a/c on, hit the horn) does everything seem normal? If it does, it must be a bad gauge.
