You can try removing the thermostat and check to see if it needs to be replaced (if its worn).

also, you can check the temperature cooling sensor. (this sensor sends temperature information to your cars computer). good-day !

I have a 1996 chevy lumina and the temperature gauge keeps moving around unpredictably. The fans wont come on. We checked the fuses and relay switch. Could it be the fan motor, or temperature gauge

The gauge is supposed to move. Between 190 and 210 degrees. About a 1/16 to 1/4 inch movement with the needle. If it goes from middle(200 degrees) to hot(260 degrees) and back. Check the coolant level. Air pocket in the engine. Low fans come on at about 210 degrees. High fans come on at 225 degrees. High fans come on when the A/C is turned on. And it works.

Temperature gauge stuck

-You mean your car never get hotter than 60*...?
If so, the thermostat is open all the time. Or stuck at open position.
Possibly need new thermostat.

05 Silverado, overheats when in 4-wheel drive under strain. Fixed once(so I thought) by replacing the water pump and thermostat. Happened a few months later. Again, 4-wheel, under strain. Wound up...

Instrument cluster - GM had problems with a part inside the cluster , Stepper motor , These faulty step motors caused the gauges to act erratically . 2003 to 2006 ! ALL GM vehicles . Just replaced a cavalier instrument cluster for what customer thought was a over heating problem .The fans come on low speed when engine temp. reaches 220 degress
The PCM commands the low speed cooling fans ON under the following conditions:
• Engine coolant temperature exceeds approximately 104.25°C (220°F).
• A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1447 kPa (210 psi).
• After the vehicle is shut OFF if the engine coolant temperature at key-off is greater than 101°C (214°F) the low speed fans will run for a minimum of 60 seconds After 60 seconds, if the coolant temperature drops below 101°C (214°F) the fans will shut OFF. The fans will automatically shut OFF after 3 min. regardless of coolant temperature.
The PCM commands the high speed fans ON under the following conditions:
• Engine coolant temperature exceeds approximately 107.2°C (225°F).
• A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds approximately 1824 kPa (265 psi).
• When certain DTCs set.
At idle and very low vehicle speeds the cooling fans are only allowed to increase in speed if required. This insures idle stability by preventing the fans from cycling between high and low speed.

Engine temperature peugeot 307 sw hdi 90 rapier

behind front grill (near engine coolant blower motor) you have two relays for engine blower motor and resistor. Or one of this relay is foulty (or wires in conector) (oxidation becouse of the wather), or the resistor is broken. yours engine have two speed (stage) fan and probably first does not work. you can check when engaging AC first stage should work instantly. second start in about 100°C

Air conditioner in 1999 mercury tracer won't work. It's not the compressor nor does it have a leak. what could be the problem?

the tracer is the same as the ESCORT, right?? TRY THIS--I WORK ON PLENTY OF ESCORTS--LOOK UNDER THE AIR CLEANER/CONE ASSEMBLY--THERE WILL BE A BLACK METAL BOX(FULL OF RELAYS) ONE OF WHICH IS THE A/C RELAY--TRY TAPPING ON IT WITH A LONG SCREWDRIVER OR SOMETHING SIMILAR WHILE U HAVE THE A/C ON. IF THE A/C SUDDENLY STARTS WORKING U NEED TO GET A NEW RELAY BOX(I THINK ITS CALLED A GEM MODULE) i do have a question- does the blower motor work?? how do u know the compressor is good??do you have 12 volts going to it??? this relay box is pretty common to go bad--u have to remove the air cleaner in order to get to it.get back to me.
