Can be numerous of things, such as bad injectors or sticky valves, bad plugs. used only Denso plugs for the car. give it a good tune up first from wires and plugs, check coil. also check to see fuel injectors is clog by filling up with high octane gas such as 93+ an add fuel injector additives and run it til its empty and see it clear up any. when was the last time the timing belt has been replaced. they should be change every 75k miles however, some will run it to 100k miles plus on belt. Timing chain tend to last a lot longer then a belt. if the timing belt is worned, possibility it could of jump time from worned teeth causing it to random fire, one tooth off will change the firing completely. the belt will run you about 60 bucks and it not that easy to replace if your not mechanical incline. if its your timing issue, I recommend you find an off duty Toyota mechanic to do the job on the side, every dealership has one of those but you have to ask around. do not asked the wrong person such as shop manager, ask the mechanic itself, it will save you big bucks instead of shop cost. many will do it for 100-150 minus the parts.
