    The shift lever won't move?

Do the brake lights come on when ou press the brake pedal?

  • Anonymous Dec 04, 2011

Well i cant push the button to unlock the shifter. Usually you push the break and that releases the shifter and then you push the button on the top of the shifter and move it at the same time, but now i push the breaks and nothing happens.

Yes the break lights come on and the calibers seem to be engaging but the shifter is still locked?

In the fuse block under the drivers side rear seat check the ignition 0 fuse. In the under hood fuse block check the B/U fuse and the BTSI fuse. If the b/u fuse is blown than you would not have back up lamps.

Sound like keylock cylinder is damaged if you did not have front wheels in straight forward position and ignition switch in lock position with key off.you still need to crank engine to turn wheel where you can remove brake pads bolts but ignition switch need to lock not left ignition to on position while you move front wheels to remove brake shoes retaining bolts.

1999 Chevy Tracker 3 of 4 Wheels locked up

. This could be due to a malfunctioning locking hub control system, which is responsible for engaging the front wheels . Another possibility is that the front axle actuator is faulty . The rear breaks may have seized, another possibility, after the break was on so long.. Regarding grinding, It's possible that the transfer case has been damaged due to lack of use or that there is a problem with one of the gears inside.About the power issue, there could be an issue with the drivetrain. It's possible that one of the axles has become disconnected or that there is a problem with one of the differentials. You mentioned that both driver side and passenger rear wheels are stuck, which could indicate a problem with one of these components. I recommend taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for diagnosis.

My renault scenic suv 2001 pulls to the left on the steering wheel when touch the brakes, when remove your foot off the break peddal it pulls straight again, what causes this?

Generally, this means the left side brake is engaging before the right front brake. So, check the right front brake pads and caliper to make sure they are free floating and not stuck with a little rust. Sometimes, backing up quickly and hitting the brakes kind of hard can break free the disk pads/caliper, but I would recommend taking a look at the brake pads and caliper to be sure they didn't get stuck in place.

Unlock steering wheel and ignition 1994 ford f250

Use the key, if it wont turn try jerking the steering wheel in both directions while turning the key, sometimes when the wheel is turned when parked the key lock gets stuck due to pressure on the lock cylinder

Steering wheel stuck and key wont turn

One of the things is a lock-out switch on the brake pedal lever. Some are coordinated with the gearshift, the Keyswitch, and the starter Relay. Check to see if the brake lights work when you press on the brake pedal. If no signal is going to the brake lights, then there is a chance that the Park shift lever, the steering wheel and the Keyswitch are bound up.

Sometimes a steering wheel is at the extreme reach of the travel in the front suspension. This can sometimes happen in cold weather when the car is sitting on ice or snow. When the ice or snow melts, the front tires settle into a position that puts pressure on the steering wheel and loads Torque up the steering column. Another possibility is that the car was bumped in the Parking lot and jammed into a position creating Torque on the steering column.

Last, the tumbler inside the Keyswitch could have fallen apart and that is why the mechanism is not releasing the steering wheel.

There are adjustments in the Keyswitch to be at the correct position to work with the lockout at the bottom of the steering column.

Vibration between 55 and 65 mph

I am a minor shade tree mechanic here so this is just a guess. It might be a front brake rotor, a break pad caliper that has a sticky hydraulic piston, front wheel bearing, or something else. Look at the pad and rotor wear for it possibly being a break system issue. Not sure, if you do not have a solid front axle look at the inner part of the wheel under the vehicle where the ball mates into the socket for any wet fluids or unusual gunk or build up around the axle and break calipers for a wheel bearing problem. Jack up the front end and make sure you chalk the rear tires, vehicle is in PARK and the steering wheel is unlocked as to where the steering wheel can be turned if needed. After vehicles front tires are off the ground try to pivot the front wheels to point in a different direction left turn or right turn. This can be tried by physically grabbing the tire trying to move the tire to point left or right. If the front tires are able to be pointed in a different direction without the aid of the steering wheel, then it could be a wheel bearing issue or a more serious issue. Hope you can make sense of these instructions, and hope this helps you find and fix any and all existing problems you are having with your vehicle.

Stuck in park

If there is pressure on the front wheels, it may prevent you from turning the key to get it out of park. Try turning the steering wheel to relieve pressure and try shifting out of park.

Key is stuck in ignition, wont turn all the way back to remove it...if it helps, the steering wheel wont lock either

If the steering wheel wont lock either okay if its automatic make sure it goes in park. If automatic and it doesnt go in park the safety release will think you are in gear and you wont be able to take it out. Now for manual put the e brake on push the key all the while tun to the of position.I hope this help

Steering wheel locks up when parked

Although the car is not in front of me, it sounds like when you park ( is this parallel parking ? ) your steering wheel is turned hard to the left or right, which creates extreme pressure on the steering wheel lock. In order to help overcome this problem, you must "armstrong" the steering wheel in the same direction the front wheels are turned. Locking up on the freeway with this same issue. Highly unlikely.
