ABS and TC light on, speedometer and odometer not working

When I start my car, the ABS, and traction control light comes on and the speedometer and odometer does not work. After you go down the road a little piece, it all starts working for a little while. When the light comes back on, you can feel sometimes like the TC is grabbing when you apply the brakes, just as it would do in heavy rain, or snow. Is there some way to troubleshoot? Suggestions????

I have the 2000 Cadillac Catera Sport and I had the same problem. ABS, TC light and no speedometer and odo. I thought it was an electrical problem however I solved the problem by refurbishing the ABS Module. If you bring to the dealer it will cost you $3,000. You can have your ABS module rebuilt try modulemaster.com they do it for about $200 I believe. I got mine fixed because a friend of mine removed them and soldered some loose connectors together. All it cost me was a case of beer! It worked for my car just a suggestion for you guys. My ABS Module was a Bosch 5.3. Hope this helps!

I bought a catera with a blown rear end and swapped it with one from a junk yard. When i went to drive it the abs and traction control lights were on, and there was no speedometer. The guy i bought it from said that they never came on. the only sensors that were changed were the abs on the rear end. So i switched them back and all the problems went away. That was 2 months ago and the speedometer has been perfect, and no more lights on the dash. Hope this helps!

Check the wheel sensors first..one at each wheel and make sure they are clean, wiring looks good.
You should also lose your power steering and cruise.

Failing that, you may need to replace the EBTCM electronic brake traction control module located on the ABS pump and right behind the battery. A pig to remove and reinstall
Some places in the US rebiuld them with warranty for about $100 to 150

Transmission speed sensor

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.

Abs and traction control dash lites come on and off at various time..sometimes never come on

Your abs and traction control lights should only come on when you start to slide while breaking(ABS), and when your wheels spin in place when excelerating(TC). If those 2 things don't happen, which with some people they never do, you should never see the lights come on. Only when those mechanisms are in use do the lights come on. And they will always flicker as that is what abs and tc are, intermitant surges to break up the constant. ABS does this for obvious reasons...anti lock break, so when you slide, the abs "taps" the breaks in short bursts so they don't lock up. TC "taps" the exclelrator when it slips. Those "taps" are what trigger the lights on your dash, which is why they flicker and don't stay on.

ABS and TC light on. Speedometer and odometer are not working

If the speedo and odometer are not working it could be the speed sensor in the transmission. And the speed sensor could also knock out the ABS and traction control systems.
Have you had the body computer scanned for trouble codes ?

I was driving and a light on my dash came on that had the letter TC in the middle of the weird picture. I dont have a manual so I have to idea what it means. Once I turned off the car and got back in to...

Hi, the TC stands for traction control, and there is a button that must have been hit, once the cear ignition was recycled, it went back to normal. Use traction control at slippery road conditions, and this will transmit power to the wheels through the abs system, resulting in the best traction. Thanks...Coop

My '99 catera speedometer doesnt work and the

You need to replace the traction control module located on the ABS pump. There are places in the US where they will rebuild it for you with warranty for about $150.
Its tricky to get off (you need to remove the rad hose between the battery and the pump to get to it, but don't disconnect the ABS module, just the TC module mounted at end of the ABS unit (has a bunch of brake lines coming out if it).

The power steering is variable assist, relative to the speed of the vehicle, so if the speedo doesn't work, then the PS won't and you should have TC and ABS lights on. The electrical connectors to the module are tricky to remove. don't force them. One connector has a sliding lock bar.

I have a 2000 Catera that when I changed the electronic brake control module all warning lights went off, speedo and odo worked. New EBCM is $2000 Cdn I got mine used for 170. also it can be re built at modulemasters.com for $160. Not sure about the dash light tho.

1999 Windstar ABS/Traction/OD off light and speedometer

Its a faulty sensor switch on your brakes master cylinder. It leaks brake fluid into the wires that are plugged into it and causes a short in the circuit, resulting in a blown fuse that controls the AC, odometer, speedometer, cruise control, and ABS light to come on. This problem can also cause a fire. The fire can occur even when the vehicle is off. To fix this problem go to this URL - http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/
