1998 Pontiac Grand Prix Wiper Problems

This is probably not the best place to ask, but its a place to start. I own a 1998 GTP and lately I have been plagued with windshield wiper issues. Initial problem is the wipers not returning to the resting bracket when turned off (this I know the cause and solution). Now I am stumped with an issue where the wipers will not work unless switched to the HIGH settings. Any settings other than OFF will result in power-loss-like behavior. ie: wipers stop moving on the spot. When switched to OFF, the problem above will occur. I did a little research and here are the potential problems that I think is present: 1) wiper circuit board malfunction, 2) wiper motor (unlikely), 3) assembly/transmission malfunction I am looking for the least expensive solution to the problem; replacing parts is acceptable, but must be low-cost and can be performed with manual labour (not relying on mechanics). Much help appreciated, thanks.

You can try disassembling the wiper arm selector switch (mounted inside the steering column) and cleaning up the contacts with contact cleaner and/or repositioning the contact tabs. If that doesn't work, then a new wiper multiswitch is what it needs.

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Starts and turns off approx 5-10 seconds after starting.

I would replace the TPS sensor. If you have fuel pressure enough to start the car, then you probably have pressure always. Before turning the key to start, turn to ON. You should hear the fuel pump pressurizing the lines. Turn the car back off. Go under the hood and remove the cap to the Schrader Valve. Use a rag to catch any fuel when you depress the valve stem. If fuel comes out into your rag, you should have pressure. Try this a second time to be sure. I had this issue with my car shutting down. TPS sensor replacement fixed it. BUT...it could be vacuum lines, or another sensor fault. The TPS is a common issue. You may also want to clean your Mass Air Flow sensor with the proper solvent and technique.

New transmission

The best place you'll ever find parts and service for the GTP is www.zzperformance.com

They have their headquarters garage and then several authorized satellite locations in a few states. They make their living on working only with the GTP exclusively.

My 1998 grand prix gtp cut off today while driving it. car still has power battery is not dead. alternator still good and the car will not start. it will turn over but wont quite fire up

my 1998 grand prix does the exact same thing. It just shuts off while driving. I still have battery power. I have called pontiac dealers in my area and they dont seem to have any idea to fixing without changing everything in hopes the hit the problem
Can you narrow it down.

Key stays in ignition

if the key won't turn all the way off...it's probably a bad lock cylinder.
