You can replace the heater hose manifold yourself, easiest to just eat the cost of the hole section of piping at once around $118 for part. Replaced whole piece on my 2001 rather than just a section.

It's very possible it could be leaking and need replacing.
$500 is too much to pay for this repair.
I would get a second opinion and another cost estimate.

I have water pouring out from the top of the engine block, but not from the water pump. Can't see exactly but looks like the leak is behind and above the water pump. Can you tell me the most l

If its not from the water pump or hose it is most likely from a rusted out welch plug , This happens if the coolant is not replaced when needed . To do a good repair replace them all . For a bit extra money find brass plugs, end of problem . replace with good coolant.

Intake Manifold gasket replacement and/or leaking= Ford

Intake Manifold gasket~

Replacing intake manifold gasket:
Replacing the intake manifold gasket, I used the tube kind, it's a make it youself for about $6 (it's blue and the consistancy of toothpaste) follow directions carefully! You can get a tube at Autozone or any car parts store. Has been working great. Just ask the cashier for the make it yourself kind of intake manifold gasket. Sorry, I don't remember the name of it, it's been that long...lol...

As for the Intake Manifold leaking coolant....It could, but shouldn't. One of the largest problems I've seen for coolant to leak out the Intake Manifold has been due to pressure in the system somewhere... Check the classic area:
Water pump- look for either water seapage and/or coolant. You'll know if it is because you will see real water either coming out of the water pump leak hole or under the thermostat. Most of the time coolant will pool where your heater hose runs in the intake manifold.

Mentioning heater hose. Check for leaks, holes, and/or cracked heater hoses. In-addition to the water pump, heater hoses...Check the transmission system, exhaust system, fuel system, radiator system, A/C system, secondary fan (located above the water pump housing), and thermostat. Also, check all electrical connections....Hummm....This is almost the entire workings of the vehicle.

NOTE: "It seems to be an infinity kinda thing... Once one thing starts to fail and is ignored, you are bound to be fixing a chain of event failures. Therefore, Do not ignore even the smallest problem or you'll be bound for life in repairs...."

Blower works no heat on 1999 Ford Taurus

Check the heater hoses that go into the firewall to the heater core, they both should be hot,if only one is hot and the other isn't,then the core is plugged. Remove the hoses at the firewall, buy of hose the same diameter, buy enough length so that you can flush away from the engine compartment, install it on one of the heater core pipes, using a garden hose with a jet sprayer slowly blast water into the hose, until you see clean water coming out from the other pipe. Remove the hose and install it on the other pipe of the heater core and repeat the process, you may have to do it several times to completely unplug it. This is a typical problem with a 3.0, 2 valve taurus, coolant looks brown and rusty. The entire cooling system should be flushed, if it isn't the heater core will plug again.

Need to change thermostat 2002 ford tarus 3.0 engine

need to diconnect the battery, drain the coolant, the thermostat is located on the right side of the engine as you are looking at it, follow the big upper radiator hose from the radiator the the thermostat housing, diconnect the hose from the housing, the remove the three bolts in the housing, pop the housing off and the thermostat should be stuck in the housing, note the position of the thermostat in the housing because it will only go back in one way, clean off the old gasket from the housing and the lower intake manifold, intsall the housing back onto the manifold with the new thermostat and gasket, start the bolts with your fingers and torque them to 90 in-lbs(inch pounds), connet the radiator hose to the housing, be sure to replace the hose clamp if its damged, fill the cooling sytem and connect the battery, start the engine and chek for any coolant leaks, be sure to check the coolant level after the engine has reached operating temp .

My 99 ford taurus is registering that it has low coolant on the dash board. its leaking a little under the passenger front side under the hood. i also smell somthing like burning, hot under the hood also

Could very well be coolant, depending on what color your using, orange, green whatever, but it should feel a little oily when you rub it between your fingers. Top up your bottle in the meantime, and have it checked, before it does worse, more expensive/extensive damage to your engine.

Losing coolant

if there are no leaks for sure and you are consuming coolant, you make look into the possibilty of a blown headgasket. esp. if it has overheated in the past.
