1993 dodge Grand Cherokee with a 318 hard starting when cold until things under hood click and fuel pump runs.

318- automatic-full time 4 wheel drive Will not start when cold, you can crank on it for a long time, unless you turn the key to "on" and let things under the hood make noises and fuel pump runs, then will start right away.

Your jeep ecu is in need of repair. It has what is referred to as the delayed check engine light problem. If you'll notice, next time you try starting the jeep, it will not start when the check engine light finally comes on, on the dash. The fuel pump will only come on when the ecu finally energizes the relays, and that's when all the clicking starts. Look on ebay for an ecu repair service.

Why don't i have power to my ignition or fuel pump on my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The problem could be a bad ignition switch. I would start by checking ALL the fuses - both under the dash and under the hood. The under hood fuse panel should also have a fuel pump relay. You may want to replace that to see if it helps.

Replace the oxygen sensor. Worked for me! My 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee was doing this same thing, even after replacing the battery, crankshaft sensor, computer, ignition coil, wires and plugs and fixing vacuum leaks.

6cyl. reliable, runs good. but three fuel pumps recently, still no pressure, but starts after 20-25 cranks. starts good when cold. new regulator, dist.+plugs/cables/coil.

Check the in line fuel filter, could be under hood or along frame. Also there is a screen in the tank but should have been checked when fuel pump was changed.....

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start. When

Check your fuel pump ,fuel lines,.One of the most overlooked starting causes is fuel delivery. Find the fuel rail to the injectors. Assuming you don't have a fuel pressure gauge, remove the dust cap on the fitting on the fuel rail and press the center pin in the valve to see if there's a good amount of pressure for a very brief second. There will be no continuous pressure unless the engine is running or is being cranked over. Have somebody crank it for you for a second to see if high pressure is present.

If not, first look at the fuel cutoff switch usually located in the inside stowage compartment of the vehicle. See if the reset button clicks when you press it. Next check the fuel pump fuse and relay, and finally the pump itself could be bad.

It won't start when it is cold but starts fine when warm. Will start eventually if you pump the heck out of it and crank it and repeat quite a few times. I have a 91 cherokee that won't start when it's...

Try cycleing ur key a few times before actually cranking it alot of the time wen a fuel pump is about to go it wont prime cycling the key will prime it. As for the fuel gauge thats part of the fuel pump its called a sending unit and in the jeeps its all in one unit. it sounds like your fuel pump is about to go tho. i had the same problem with my 93 jeep grand cherokee laredo. i replaced the fuel pump and it runs fine now u can get it from your local autozone for about 140. hope this helps let me know
