For the sake of completeness, here's the full no-start Troubleshooting Guide for the 2001 6 cylinder 3.5L MFI Mitsu Diamante, but the problem with your car is line item #6 - the ECC (Engine Control Computer) is shorted/dead. Without an ECC, the Diamante will (a) get no spark, since the ignition timing comes from the computer, and (b) get no fuel, since the fuel injectors are operated by the computer as well. The engine will turn over, since running the starter motor is a non-computer controlled matter of a correctly functioning ignition switch, a charged battery, and good wiring to a functional starter motor/solenoid, but will never start.
The clue pointing directly to the ECC failure is the blowing ECC fuses. These fuses are blowing to tell you that the ECC is shorted dead.
Since the ECC is expensive, exhaustively check out all other possible sources of the problems, but with so few problems causing loww of both spark and fuel, combined with the blown ECC fuses pointing directly to the ECC, it seems that the ECC is the only culprit.
Here's a used 2001 Mitsu Diamante ECC at Ebay for $175.

Priority Action Part Type Cause
1 Inspect Choke - Stuck or Improperly Functioning Choke.
2 Inspect Fuel Filter - Clogged or Dirty Fuel Filter.
3 Inspect Fuel Pump Relay - Faulty Fuel Pump Relay.
4 Inspect Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator - Faulty Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator.
5 Inspect Fuel Pump - Low Fuel Pressure.
6 Inspect Engine Control Computer - Incorrect Operating Information Being Delivered and Sent From The EEC.
7 Inspect Fuel Pump Strainer - Clogged or Dirty Fuel Pump Strainer.
8 Inspect Ignition Switch - Improperly Connected or Faulty Ignition Switch.
9 Inspect Battery - Battery Discharged or Faulty.
10 Inspect Battery Cable - Coroded, Broken, Shorted or Poorly Connected Battery Cable.
11 Inspect Solenoid - Starter Solenoid Faulty.
12 Inspect Starter - Starter Motor Faulty.
13 Inspect Wireset - Worn or Damaged Spark Plug Wires.
14 Inspect Ignition Coil - Faulty Ignition Coil.
15 Inspect Distributor Cap - Loose, Cracked or Worn Distributor Cap.
16 Inspect Spark Plugs - Incorrectly Gapped or Fouled Spark Plug(s).
17 Inspect Distributor Rotor - Loose, Cracked or Worn Distributor Rotor.
18 Inspect Fuel Tank - Fuel Tank Empty.
19 Inspect Carburetor - Worn, Faulty or Damaged Carburetor.

The fuel pump strainer is a sock-like strainer in the fuel tank on the input side of the fuel pump designed to protect the fuel pump by straining out any debris in the tank (similar to the way that the fuel filter protects the engine/fuel injectors/fuel pressure regulator).

will this also make the sunroof not open?

  • Archaeology
    Archaeology Nov 30, 2011

A malfunction in ECC (Engine Control Computer) would have no effect on the operation of the sunroof. Usually they'll stop working due to moisture infiltration shorting the sunroof motor or wiring, or corroding the sunroof rails, which would cause the sunroof to fail to move, or stop halfway, which would cause the sunroof fuse to blow.
Is it possible that someone borrowed your car and the sunroof was open overnight during a downpour, which shorted out everything electrical in the car, including ECC computer and sunroof motor/wiring?

no its always here with me but it worked fine till the engine control fuse blew. so i didnt know if that could have something to do with it. and i cant get a maintance book on this car to save my life. do you know where i can get one? ive tried autozone napa and advance auto parts stores

just to let you know it was a pinched wire below the valve cover. the person that owned the car before us had someone work on it and they did not know what they was doing. but its fixed and running good but the sunroof still dont work.

    Here's a maint. manual for $10 on Ebay: (2001-05 Mitsu Diamante Manual):http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-02-03-04-05-M...

There's also an freebie online maint. manual for 2001-05 Diamante at:http://www.autozone.com - if you register (free), you can accesss the 2001 Diamante Manual at:http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairi...

JC Whitney sells a Haynes Manual for $21 for the 2001 Diamante at:http://www.jcwhitney.com/haynes-repair-m...

Haynes Manuals are known for giving lots of good clues and specs, but professional mechanics will often try to get something from AllData.com, or the manufacturer.
But for $21, you can't beat the value.

Would love to know which wire was pinched - the one from the fuse box to ECC?
(That would certainly blow ECC fuses).

Culprit with the sunroof problem - still suspect moisture - either intruding into sunroof or spilled onto the sunroof switch.

Why my car won't start it's a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante I just put in a fuel pump and it won't start

If you didn't disconnect the battery before replacing it could be a blown fuse, or a plugged fuel filter if it is turning over and not the fuse. Also some vehicles have an emergency fuel cut off that can be reset.

2001 mitsubishi diamante not turning over

Try turning the key on and listen for the fuel pump to kick on it'll be a hum coming from the fuel tank area. If you don't hear anything then its a bad fuel pump. If you do try turning the off and on several times leaving it in the position till the humming stops then turn it off and repeat a few times then crank it if it starts then the fuel pump is weak or a clogged fuel filter which isn't allowing enough fuel to pass thru to open the injectors.

The car will not start

it is possible you would have to put fuel pressure gauge on the fuel lines at the engine but very possible to be the crank sensor or may just be a blown fuse to ecm fuel pump check fuses first

My2001 Mitsubishi Diamante sunroof wont close i

Does the sun roof do anything whebn you press the button. if not, check your fuses and the sun roof switch. If fuses are good you want to check to see if the sun roof motor is getting power. If it is getting power it could be the motor itself. If it tries to move but can't then you have a mechanical problem. it might be binding so try giving it an assist by pushing on it when pressing the switch.

I have a 98 mitsubishi diamante that overheated now the car wont start and when i crank it it sounds like the timing is of it whines

Sounds like it may have blown a head gasket, and or craked/warped a cylinder hear or engine block. If possible, pull all six spark plugs and look for evidence of engine coolant on the electrode.
