SOURCE: Where can i get the specs for ignition timing on a

I have always set to zero, but heres how, on the passengers side top of firewall ,there is the electrical junction cover ,under the hood. look for the tan and black wire in the big harness some times around the back of the engine, look for the connector in the tan and black wire and disconnect it..start the engine check timing and set to zero, with the timing light. when this is done reconnect the tan and black wire connector and yer done , this wire eliminates the advance and computer adjustments so timing can be set .. yes the engine light will be on and it will show code 42 est bypass fail but this is normal.. light will go out when the connector is reconnected hope this answers your question..good luck,

SOURCE: where is the fuel filter

I have 2 1989 GMC S-15 trucks (actually one of them i bought for my daughter). Anyway, the 2.5 four cylinder one has the fuel filter on the firewall between the brake master cylinder and the engine. The other one is a 4.3 six cylinder and the fuel filter is on the inside of the frame rail on the driver's side, kind of under the cab near the fuel tank. Hope this helps.

How do i putmay gmc 2.5 timing

The engine timing is supposed to be set automatically by the engine computer. If your timing is off, either the timing chain (or belt) is worn and needs to be replaced, or the crankshaft sensor housing is cracked and no longer holds the sensor in the correct position.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND HEARD A LOUD POP FROM UNDER MY 1989 GMC SIERRA , THEN IT DIED ON ME ... WHAT HAPPENED

Did you open the hood? It could be a popped serpentine belt or a broken timing chain or timing belt.

the correct timing will be 12 degrees before TDC. It can be adjusted to 10 degrees but not over 12.

Need tune specs on '89 5.7 GMC

Spark plugs are set at 0.035 inch.
Ignition timing is set at 0 degrees BTDC. The computer then controls the timing from there. There will be a wire that you unplug before you set the timing, then once you have verified that the timing is at 0 degrees, then reconnect the wire and you're done.

Where can i get the specs for ignition timing on a 1989 GMC K1500 Pickup

Note: The Timing Connector breaks out of the engine wiring harness conduit adjacent to the distributer. It is a single wire sealed connector that has a tan with black stripe lead.
Note: Timing specifications are listed on the Vehicle Emissions Control Information label under the hood. Always follow the Vehicle Emissions Control Information label procedures first before using the following procedure. PROCEDURE:
Set timing under the following conditions:
  • Normal operating temperature.
  • Air cleaner installed.
  • A/C "OFF".
  • Transmission in neutral.
  • Disconnect SET TIMING connector (tan/black wire) located in the harness close to the distributor. DO NOT disconnect the 4 wire connector at the distributor.
  • Connect timing light and adjust as necessary by loosening hold down bolt and rotating distributor.
Base Timing, with Manual and Automatic Transmissions: 00(TDC)
  • Tighten hold down and recheck the timing.
  • Stop the engine and connect SET TIMING connector.
  • Clear ECM trouble code by disconnecting ECM power source.

89 gmc

I time these engines at 4 to 6 degrees BTDC. If there is timing chain wear or if it has higher mileage, I go to 8 BTDC. The extra degrees help with the timing chain stretch.
