If i had new bmw i would let only the bmw dealership change oil and service the car period, bmw is a very expensive car every body cant work on them.let dealership do the oil change they the only ones can reset your oil service light, its not easy to reset if you dont know how. most of the time if you have new vechicle the place where you bought the car will cut you a oil change deal.

WwwI have a 1998 BMW m3 and I did an oil change but how do I reset oil light without going to the dealer.

You can buy a code scanner that reads out fault codes and resets the oil change, inspection, and engine fault lights. There are several brands, but the Peake is the most popular among BMW owners.
On a '98, you can reset the oil light by shorting between a couple of the pins on the computer connector. It is advisable to make a jumper that includes a resistor. If you go to a forum like DTM power or Pelican or BimmerForums or UnitedBimmerCommunity and search, you will find the instructions. I would rather not tell you how because I would feel guilty if you made a mistake and flame-broiled some very expensive electronics on your car.

I would like to get a website that may walk me through a do it yourself oil change. I especially need to know how to reset the oil light.

BavAuto.com or Pelican Parts.com - Both offer great prices on BMW parts and BOTH have tech tips on about anything you want to do to it.

What is the best oil to be placed in a bmw 523i 2006 ?

I always use Castrol Edge in mine. I like to service and change oil and filter every five thousand kilo....But I do live in a very dusty place.
I like Castrol oils if you prefer a different brand always go for the synthetic high performance oil formulated for the engine in your vehicle.

What kind of transmision oil, engine oil ?

I have a 99 M3. BMW serviced it for the 1st 3 years and the engine blew up...oil issues.

use a heavier weight oil than the manual suggests. ideally

10w40 or 10w50 even 15w50 if you're in a hot spot
if you're in a cold winter environment, then use 5-50 synthetic. avoid parking on hills in cold weather.

How do u know that u need a oil change on a bmw 3301 2002

It's basically an owner's decision. Some people like to change it every 1000 miles, others up to 3000 and even more. If you don't know when the last one was, change it. Write down the mileage, and go from there.

I had my 2003 BMW M3 in for it's annual oil change and they didn't reset my oil change maintanence light. It is still showing 3700 miles before next oil change and I just got it done.

1. Key in 0 or off position.

2. Press and hold odometer button and turn key to 1 or acc. position... like you're turning the car on, but don't crank the engine.

3. Keep button pressed until any of the following words appear in display: "oil service" or "inspection", with "reset" or "re". For vehicles with "high cluster", the fuel amount (in litres) remaining until next service is displayed (i.e. 3224).

4. Press and hold button again until "reset" or "re" flash.

5. While display is flashing, press button briefly to reset service interval indicator. After display has shown new interval, the following will appear in display for approx. 2 seconds:"END SIA"
