Not sure I understand your question. Did you buy a harness adapter for GMC, or are you trying to just cut the connector off the factory radio and solder it to your CD player? If the latter, below is the color code for your factory wiring.

Brake controller or trailer brakes connections or brake light to run system

The brake switch at the pedal does have six wires, but none go to the multifunction switch (on the steering column). The white wire with tan tracer goes to the combination flasher to be integrated with the turn signals/hazard lights. The combination flasher is under the dash next to the steering column and has a sixteen pin connector (ten of which have wires).

2001 dodge intrepid replaced brake light switch and my brake lights still will not shut off.... Please help

I would start looking for a grounded wire somewhere. it could be where the harness goes thru the firewall. You might want to get a color code from a dealer or online so you know what color wires are in the brake light circuit. I don't know what your level of ability is, but you'll need a tester you can get from Autozone or any parts place. You will need the tester to check each wire. You will be removing eac fuse until the light in the tester goes out. That will tell you what wire is grounded.

Trailer light hook-up

We do not have the wiring diagrams. But here is the red neck method, use a 12 volt test light probe tool (any parts stores for $5) and as a friend operates each light circuit, probe the connector or harness and see what lights up, then mark the wire color and what it does, brake lights, turn signals etc.

See your GM dealer they will print out a wiring diagram for you, Look at the brake switch under the dash, I,m pretty sure they have a couple of white wires and an orange. The wire harness runs along the roof on the L/F side, What we use to do is run temp wires to test and varify everything and then do it perminantly. Good luck Kirk fc6fc

Hello Mark.
In the brake lamp switch there are three switched circuits.
One that goes to the ECM one to your brake lamps and one to cruise control.
I suspect the circuit you are looking at that opens is for cruise control.
As you can see in the diagram for the Catera below.
For some reason the color of the wire for the output for the brake lamp is not shown although it indicates it's purpose. Eliminate the other colors and it will be that one.
If you require more assistance with the switch wiring let me know here in comments.
Thank you for using FixYa.

I need to wire an electric brake controller in my truck

you can either wire it straight or gm makes a connector that plugs into the drivers side floor . theres a box down there that has a cover over it and the gm connector plugs straight to it. but be careful because i have seen several times were gm wired it wrong the stop light plug is in the wrong spot.take a test light to ground touch each connector while pressing and releasing brake pedal the one that lights the light, is your stop light look on there connector and check to see if that plug is going to the red wire if not move the red wire to that spot. as for wiring it you have to do it this way. black wire goes to constent hot, white wire goes to constent ground , blue wire goes back to your trailer plug for your electric brake, and red wire as you know by now goes to the stop light.

Installing a trailer brake controller and need to tap the brake light wire. This is the wire that shows 12 only when the pedal is pressed. What color is the wire on an '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd? I could...

Don't bother with a schematic...they all differ. Use a simple test light and just probe the rear light harness with everything turned off except for the brake lights, only one wire should show power. You can also check the color of the wire coming directly out of the bulb socket. I own a jeep, can read and draw wiring diagrams and have yet to find a diagram that has the same color coding as my vehicle.
