I was pulling a boat trailer with my Jeep when the police alerted me that i had no rear trailer lights, I also had no rear tailights when my lights where in the on position. I had poped a couple fuses a couple days earlier and replaced them correctly but when I hooked up the trailer with the parkng lamps on something went wrong. I now have no rear tailights, I do have back up lights, rear brake lights, turn signals and front headlights. I would greatly appreciate any help and would be happy to take the person that helps Chinook Salmon Fishing for no charge. I have checked and replaced all fuses and checked everything I could think of. Did I fry the headlight switch? Could it be a relay? Please help Thanks Mike
You checked to make sure you didn't blow all the bulbs at once?
If your front park lights work, then the headlight switch is probably alright.
You may have a taillight relay in your fusebox. Check the owner's manual. It may show it.
Thank you Yep we checked all the bulbs and they are ok. Thank you , Do you recommend that I change the relay?
That would be the easy way to check it, for sure. They can be tested for proper operation and continuity with a multimeter. You'd need to check a repair manual. Or just try another relay. Cheers, and happy thanksgiving!.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for trying to help me in this ****, I only have front headlights, no marker lights or taillights, that's why my buddy thinks it's the switch, but I saw when you buy a new switch it comes with a relay, wouldn't the relay have blown before frying the switch? anywho you know a whole lot better than I so I just wanted to clarify that the headlights ONLY and the dome lights work , that's it, I again want to thank you for taking the time and trying to help me fix this eventually, Mike
glad to help. The headlight relay is built into the switch. so you have to buy the sw. good luck.
