Tracker wont always start. if you listen for fuel pump to pump and quit it will start, but this is after keying it off and on several times and removing key completely from ignition and putting back in.

Sounds like most of you have fuel pump problems disconnect the fuel line and check to see if any fuel comes through the line when turning it over, no fuel pump problem, or change fuel filter

Ran out of gas now wont start

Check the fuel pump is working. Happens a lot, run out of gas and the fuel pump burns out. The pump motors' bearings are cooled by the surrounding gas. Solution is to keep the tank at least a quarter full. You'll never run out of gas again.

Listen for the pump to buzz on when turning the key to on, not start. It should turn on for about 2-3 seconds to pressurize the line to the engine and to the injectors, then will shut off, but the pressure will hold for several minutes. The pump won't come back on until you are cranking the engine to start it. If you don't hear it turn on, testing will have to be done to see if the pump is bad or the circuit has a problem.

I ram out of gas now my 1998 ford taurus wont start

It's quite possible you burned out the fuel pump. The fuel pump relies on a constant flow of gasoline to cool it. Unfortunately, you have to drop the tank to access the fuel pump, but is a fairly easy fix for an avid do-it-youselfer. Before you go to that length, though, try having someone stand by rear of the car and listen for the "whirr" of the fuel pump when you turn the key to the "RUN" position. (not "START", just "RUN") If they can hear the pump, try turning the key off and on about 5 times to re-pressurize the fuel system before attempting to start the engine. Hope this helps a little and your problem is not too severe. Best of luck!

My 1992 geo tracker wont start but if u spray starter fluid in it it will then quit

Guys-no schrader valve-and 92 doesn't have scan capability. Its a fuel problem-so listen at fuel tank inlet with cap off and have someone turn key to on, not start, ON. Hear the pump run for 2 to 3 seconds??, Pump may be ok. next find fuel inlet on back of throttle body and loosen it, don't remove. Key on again does fuel spill out of connection? Pump is OK! Tighten up fuel inlet to throttle body. Make a jumper wire with a 5amp fuse in the middle and alligator clips on each end. Locate the POWER wire to the injector, red I think. Pierce the power wire with a pin or whatever and attach one alligator clip to the pin and the other clip to the positive battery post. Start the car!! IF it starts and runs, the circuit in the PCM that provides power to the injector has burned out. Rebuilt ECMs are on ebay. Common failure. Good Luck!

I started my 92' Geo Tracker and started down my drive way when it just cut off. Now it will not start back, it is getting fire to the distributor cap,is full of gas and wil turn over but not start! Please...

Is the fuel pump running? When you turn the key to the run position (the dash lights come on), you should hear a humming sound coming from the gas tank for a few seconds. Thats the fuel pump running to pressurize the system before starting. It's kind of hard to hear, so get a friend to sit in the car while you lay on the ground near the gas tank. Have them turn on the key and listen. No hum means the fuel pump isnt working.
