My engine light stays on and my speedometer works when it wants to going down the road. Can't drive at night because my dash lights go out in the car. Can't pass smog check because engine light and speedometer not working.Do I have to go to the dealership to fix this problem?

Ok you will have to have it scanned. It probably has cylinder misfire codes and random cylnder misfires. You could need spark plugs and or coils. The scan will tell you exactly which cylinder is missing. That will cure your problem and remember to change your oil and filter right before you go in for the smog test. Also if the car hasn't been serviced in a while it would be a good idea to replace the air filter and fuel filter.

well it can be one of two things 1. your oxygen sensor 2. your cats are bad....just call your home town autozone and tell them the trouble code and they can tell you what it is....so good luck...

Working on one right now and hooked it up with a Snap On Solus scanner - It gives P0135 for 0/2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1. Check the 0/'2 sensor function and replace as necessary

dash boar is electric. the fuses for that are on almost under the dashboard. like in fron of the drivers left leg there is a cover you have to pull off. but you may need to replace the cluster.

This is a common problem. All of these work from a printed circuit board. With vibration and age they will eventually get a short in the board. No one repairs them just replace the instrument cluster. Requires removing the front of the dash to remove it.
