Thread direction on camshaft sprocket bolt for 1998 lexus es 300

I am removing the camshaft sprocket (exaust cam) on a 1998 lexus es 300 (v6 3000 four cam 24). The sprocket bolt is extremly tight and I need to make sure if the sprocket bolt is reverse threaded or not before I prceede for fear of breaking the bolt or stripping the threads. cannot find this info anywhere.

OK usually threaded opposite direction of rotation. OR left is normally loose.

BUT use a breaker bar or ractecht with a 2 ft or more long pipe over the handle then try easy each way. The added leverage will make it VERY easy to loosen the bolt

Work out which way the sprocket rotates. Rotation always tightens a nut or bolt.

I have an ES330. The dealership does all my work. They are just too complicated these days.

Right hand thread, just tight. You need to hold the cam itself with something solid, don't rely on the timing belt, then if you have a 3/8 impact gun, carefully rattle the bolt out. If you don't have the impact gun available, you could try getting someone to hold the cam while you put the box end of a wrench on the bolt and tap the open end. When tapping, I wouldn't use a hammer, it's too massive, use a small steel bar, like a 1/2 inch extension about ten inches long. The idea is to set up small impacts that loosen the bolt, without twisting the cam.

Cam timing for fiat siena 1.2 2001


There are no timing marks on this engine - the engine has to be "locked" using special engine locking / setting kit which you wil have to obtain to do the job.

I will give you the instructions to do the job for when you have the locking kit to do the job.. as follows:

Removal
  1. Raise and support front of vehicle.
  2. Remove:
      • RH front wheel.
      • RH inner wing panel.
      • Air filter assembly.
  3. Support engine.
  4. Remove:
      • RH engine mounting and bracket.
      • Timing belt upper cover,
      • AC receiver/drier (if fitted). DO NOT disconnect hoses.
      • Timing belt lower cover.
      • Auxiliary drive belt.
      • Support bracket between gearbox and cylinder block (Palio).
  5. Palio: Remove bell housing cover plate. Fit flywheel locking tool. Tool No.1.867.029.000. or equivalent commercially available.
  6. Remove:
      • Crankshaft pulley bolts
      • Crankshaft pulley
      • Spark plug leads.
      • Ignition coil and bracket.
      • Spark plugs.
  7. Fit dial gauge and adapter to No.1 cylinder. Tool No.1.860.895.000.
  8. Turn crankshaft to TDC on No.1 cylinder. Set dial gauge to zero.
  9. Ensure notch in rear of camshaft aligned as shown.
  10. Install camshaft aligning tool. Tool No.1.870.823.000

  11. NOTE: If camshaft aligning tool cannot be fitted: Turn crankshaft one turn clockwise.

Installation
  1. Ensure No.1 cylinder at TDC by turning crankshaft slightly clockwise and anti-clockwise. Use dial gauge .
  2. Ensure camshaft aligning tool fitted correctly
  3. Hold camshaft sprocket. Use tool No.1.860.831.000/001
  4. Slacken camshaft sprocket bolt
  5. Fit timing belt in following order:
      • Crankshaft sprocket.
      • Water pump sprocket.
      • Camshaft sprocket.
      • Tensioner pulley.
    NOTE: Observe direction of rotation marks on belt.
  6. Fit tensioning tool locating pegs to tensioner pulley holes -Tool No.1.860.745.100/300. Ensure tensioning tool arm is horizontal.
  7. Set weight at 70 mm mark on scale bar.
  8. Hold camshaft sprocket
  9. Tighten camshaft sprocket bolt - Tightening torque: 70 Nm.
  10. Remove aligning tool
  11. Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise.
  12. Ensure No.1 cylinder at TDC by turning crankshaft slightly clockwise and anti-clockwise. Use dial gauge
  13. Ensure camshaft aligning tool can be fitted - If not: Repeat installation procedure.
  14. Tighten tensioner nut to 28 Nm
  15. Remove:
      • Tensioning tool
      • Camshaft aligning tool
      • Dial gauge
  16. Install components in reverse order of removal.
  17. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolts - Tightening torque: 20 Nm + 90°.

Water pump 2000 3.0 liter dodge caravan


For The 3.0 Motor. (3.3 Way down the line.)

Drain cooling system.
Remove timing belt. Refer to Engine for procedure.
Remove water pump mounting bolts.
Separate pump from water inlet pipe and remove water pump.

Timing Belt Removal
Raise vehicle and remove accessory drive belt splash shield (Fig. 66).
Remove accessory drive belts.
Remove crankshaft pulley and damper (Fig. 68).
Support engine and remove right side engine mount.
Remove engine support bracket (Fig. 67).
Remove timing belt covers (Fig. 67).
Mark belt running direction for installation (Fig. 69).
Loosen timing belt tensioner bolt (Fig. 71) and remove timing belt.
Remove crankshaft sprocket flange shield (Fig. 68). CAMSHAFT SPROCKETS To remove camshaft sprockets
Hold camshaft sprocket with Spanner Tool MB-990775. Loosen and remove bolt and washer (Fig. 70).
Remove camshaft sprocket from camshaft. To install camshaft sprockets:
Place camshaft sprocket on camshaft.
Install bolt and washer to camshaft. Using Spanner Tool MB-990775, hold camshaft sprocket and torque bolt to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) (Fig. 70). TIMING BELT TENSIONER
Install timing belt tensioner and tensioner spring.
Hook spring upper end to water pump pin and lower end to tensioner bracket with hook out (Fig. 71).
Turn timing belt tensioner counterclockwise full travel in adjustment slot and tighten bolt to temporarily hold this position (Fig. 72).

INSTALLATION


Install timing belt on crankshaft sprocket and keep belt tight on tension side (Fig. 69). Install belt on the front (radiator side) camshaft sprocket. Install belt on the water pump pulley, rear camshaft sprocket and finally on the timing belt tensioner.
Rotate the front camshaft sprocket in opposite direction to take up belt slack. Check that all timing marks are aligned (Fig. 69).
Install crankshaft sprocket flange (Fig. 68).
Loosen tensioner bolt and allow spring to tension timing belt.
Turn crankshaft two full turns in clockwise direction. Turn smoothly and in clockwise direction ONLY.
Align the timing marks on the sprockets and tighten the timing belt tensioner locking bolt to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) torque.
Install timing belt covers.
Install engine support bracket.
Install right side engine mount.
Install crankshaft damper and pulleys (Fig. 68). Tighten damper center bolt to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) .
Install accessory drive belts.
Install accessory drive belt splash shield (Fig. 66).

Be sure to also replace all the cam and crank seals why you are there. Might as well put a belt on too.

FOR THE 3.3 OR 3.8 MOTORS.

Drain Cooling System.
Remove accessory drive belt.
Remove right front lower fender shield.
Remove water pump pulley bolts and remove pulley.
Remove water pump mounting screws. Remove water pump.
Remove and discard O-ring seal.
Clean O-ring groove and O-ring surfaces on pump and chain case cover. Take care not to scratch or gouge sealing surface

Installation

Install new O-ring into groove.
Install water pump to chain case cover. Tighten screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) .
Rotate pump by hand to check for freedom of movement.
Position pulley on pump. Install screws and tighten to 30 Nm (250 inch lbs.) .
Install accessory drive belt.
Install right front lower fender shield.
Refill Cooling System.

FOR THE 2.4 MOTOR

Disconnect negative cable from battery.
Raise vehicle on a hoist. Remove right inner splash shield.
Remove accessory drive belts.
Drain cooling system.
Support engine from the bottom and remove right engine mount.
Remove right engine mount bracket.
Remove timing belt. Refer to Engine for procedure.
Remove timing belt idler pulley.
Hold camshaft sprocket with Special tool C-4687 and adaptor C-4687-1 while removing bolt. Remove both cam sprockets.
Remove rear timing belt cover.

Install new O-ring gasket in water pump body O-ring groove. CAUTION: Make sure O-ring is properly seated in water pump groove before tightening screws. An improperly located O-ring may cause damage to the O-ring and cause a coolant leak.
Assemble pump body to block and tighten screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) . Pressurize cooling system to 15 psi with pressure tester and check water pump shaft seal and O-ring for leaks.
Rotate pump by hand to check for freedom of movement.
Install rear timing belt cover.
Install camshaft sprockets and torque bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) .
Install timing belt idler pulley and torque mounting bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) .
Install timing belt. Refer to Engine for procedure.
Install right engine mount bracket and engine mount. Refer to Engine for procedure.
Fill cooling system.
Install accessory drive belts.
Lower vehicle and connect battery cable.

I have a 2000 lexus es 300 one pulley bolt keeps commming loose how do I tighten it


Take the bolt out, clean it and the bolt hole and replace the bolt with some Loctite on the threads. Use medium strength so that the bolt can be removed when needed.

Timing Chain Replacement procedure steps


1. Jack up front of vehicle and support on safety stands. Remove left front wheel.
2. Remove alternator/water pump drive belt. Remove water pump pulley.
3. Remove A/C belt if equipped.
4. Remove valve cover.
5. Remove upper timing belt cover.
6. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC compression stroke and camshaft sprocket timing marks align with edge of cylinder head. "UP" cast on sprocket will be at top when sprocket is in correct position. Crankshaft may be rotated using a socket wrench inserted through access hole in left fender well (engine rotates counterclockwise).
7. Unbolt and remove crank pulley. Remove rubber seal washers from belt tensioner pivot and adjustment bolts protruding through lower belt cover. Remove belt cover retaining bolts and remove cover from below.
8. Remove concave belt retainer from end of crankshaft. If timing belt is to be reused, mark direction of rotation before removing.
9. Loosen belt tensioner pivot and adjustment bolts. Push tensioner away from belt and retighten adjustment bolt to hold tensioner in this position. Remove belt.
10. Insert a suitable tool through cam sprocket and brace against cylinder head. Remove bolt and pull sprocket from camshaft.
11. Without dislodging key, install new sprocket on camshaft. Torque bolt to 22 ftlb (30 Nm).
12. Install new timing belt by starting at crank gear and working it over cam sprocket in clockwise direction. Ensure that timing marks are properly aligned.
13. Release tensioner by loosening adjustment bolt. After tensioner contacts belt, retighten bolt.
14. Rotate engine at least one full turn (counterclockwise) and check that timing marks are aligned. Loosen adjustment bolt and allow tensioner to take out any remaining belt slack. Torque adjustment and pivot bolts to 22 ftlb (30 Nm).
15. Install remaining components in reverse order of removal. Torque fasteners to following values:

Timing Belt Cover, Belt & Sprockets Removal & Installation 2.5L Engine To Remove:
  1. Remove the drive belts.
  2. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt tensioner. Timing belt & cover DOHC exploded view subaru-03-25-6470.gif

  3. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  4. Remove the mounting bolts and left timing belt cover.
  5. Remove the mounting bolts and right timing belt cover.
  6. Remove the mounting bolts and front timing belt cover.
  7. Vehicles W/ M/T: Remove the timing belt guide.
  8. Ensure that the timing belt rotation arrows are still visible. If the marks are worn off, place new rotation marks on the belt. Timing belt alignment marks DOHC subaru-03-25-6472.gif

  9. Turn the crankshaft using a breaker bar and special adapter socket on the crankshaft. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket (1), left intake sprocket (2), left exhaust sprocket (3), right intake sprocket (4) and right exhaust sprocket (5) with the notches in cylinder block and timing belt cover.
  10. Paint alignment marks on the timing belt at the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets timing marks. CAUTION
    Do not turn the camshaft sprockets with the timing belt removed. The valves heads will contact each other causing the valve stems to bend.
  11. Remove the lower right idler pulley.
  12. Remove the timing belt.
  13. Remove the upper right idler pulley.
  14. Remove the lower left (toothed) idler pulley.
  15. Remove the belt tensioner.
  16. Hold the sprocket and remove the left intake and exhaust camshafts.
  17. Hold the sprocket and remove the right intake and exhaust camshafts.
  18. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
To Install:
  1. Install the crankshaft sprocket.
  2. Hold the sprocket and install the right intake and exhaust camshafts with the mounting bolts. Tighten 58 ft-lb (78 Nm).
  3. Hold the sprocket and install the left intake and exhaust camshafts with the mounting bolts. Tighten 58 ft-lb (78 Nm).
  4. Reset the automatic belt tensioner as follows:
    • Remove the mounting bolt and belt tensioner. NOTE: Do not exceed more than 2,205 lb. (9,807 N).
    • Place the belt tensioner on a press. Press the adjuster rod down gradually (using more than 3 minutes) 66- lb (165 N) or more until the adjuster rod is aligned with the stop pin hole in the cylinder.
    • Insert a 0.08 in (2 mm) diameter pin or hex wrench into the pin hole to lock the adjuster rod.
    • Install the automatic belt tension adjuster with the mounting bolt. Tighten 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  5. Install the lower left (toothed) idler pulley. Tighten 29 ft-lb (39 Nm).
  6. Install the upper right idler pulley with the mounting bolt. Tighten 29 ft-lb (39 Nm). Crankshaft sprocket and oil pump cover alignment marks 2.5L DOHC subaru-03-25-4890.gif

  7. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket with the mark on the oil pump cover. Timing belt alignment marks DOHC subaru-03-25-6472.gif

  8. Align the single timing mark on the right exhaust camshaft sprocket with the notch on the timing belt cover.
  9. When the single timing mark on the right exhaust camshaft sprocket is aligned with the notch on the timing belt cover, ensure that the double lines on the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft sprockets are aligned.
  10. Align the single timing mark on the left exhaust camshaft sprocket with the notch on the timing belt cover by turning the sprocket counter clockwise (viewed from front of engine).
  11. Ensure that the double lines on the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft sprockets are aligned when the single timing mark on the left exhaust camshaft sprocket is aligned with the notch on the timing belt cover. CAUTION
    • The camshafts can be rotated independently causing the valves heads to contact each other resulting in bent valve stems.
    • When the timing belt is removed the camshafts will turn to the lowest cam lobe position by the force of the valve springs. Before installing the timing belt the 4 camshafts are in the lowest lift position (valves closed).
    • When the camshafts are rotated to install the timing belts, # 2 intake and # 4 exhaust cam lobes of the left camshafts are held to push their corresponding valves down. In this position, these valves are held in the open position. Right camshafts are held so their cam lobes do not push the valves down.
    • The left camshafts must be rotated from the lowest lobe position to the position where the timing belt can be installed at the smallest possible angle in order to prevent intake and exhaust valve contact. Camshaft sprockets rotation subaru-03-25-6473.gif

    • Do not turn the camshafts in the direction shown in the illustration because the valves will open at the same time and contact each other.
    CAUTION
    If the timing belt alignment is off the mark buy more than 3 teeth, the valves and pistons may have contact.

  12. Align the timing marks on the belt with the marks on the sprockets in the numerical order shown in the illustration.
  13. Install the lower right idler pulley with the mounting bolt. Tighten 29 ft-lb (39 Nm).
  14. Ensure that the timing mark alignment is correct and remove the tensioner stop pin.
  15. Vehicles W/ M/T: Install the timing belt guide and temporarily tighten the mounting bolts.
  16. Vehicles W/ M/T: Measure the clearance between the guide and timing belt. The clearance should measure 0.039 ± 0.020 in (1.0 ± 0.5 mm).
  17. Vehicles W/ M/T: Tighten the guide bolts 7.2 ft-lb (9.8 Nm).
  18. Install and secure the front timing belt cover with the mounting bolts.
  19. Install and secure the right timing belt cover with the mounting bolts.
  20. Install and secure the left timing belt cover with the mounting bolts.
  21. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  22. Install the A/C compressor drive belt tensioner.
  23. Install the drive belts.

P0345 Code, where is camshaft position sensor "A" (bank 2)


The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 4.0L 6cylinder engine is bolted to the top of the oil pump drive shaft assembly. The sensor and drive shaft assembly is located on the right side of the engine near the oil filter.

Removal
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03 for the procedure.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) .
  1. Remove the generator drive belt, water pump and power steering pump drive belt, and the A/C compressor drive belt (if equipped). Refer to Section 03-05 for the removal procedure.
  1. If equipped, remove the three A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley bolts and the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley.
  1. Remove the upper radiator hose bracket bolt.
  1. Loosen the two upper radiator hose clamps and remove the radiator hose bracket bolt. Remove the upper radiator hose (8260) and the upper radiator hose bracket from the vehicle.
  1. Remove the water bypass hose (8597) from between the thermostat housing and the water hose connection (8592) .
  1. Remove the main wiring harness from the upper engine front cover (6019) .
  1. Remove the eight upper engine front cover bolts and the upper engine front cover .
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  1. Remove the RH front wheel and tire assembly.
  1. Remove the four RH outer engine and transmission splash shield bolts and two screws and remove the RH outer engine and transmission splash shield (6775) .
  1. Use Strap Wrench 303-D055 (D85L-6000-A) or equivalent to hold the water pump pulley (8509) while removing the four water pump pulley bolts.
  1. Remove the water pump pulley from the water pump (8501) .
  1. Remove the crankshaft pulley (6312) . Refer to the procedure in this section.
  1. Remove the five lower engine front cover bolts and the lower engine front cover .
  2. Ensure that the timing marks between the crankshaft sprocket (6306) and the oil pump housing line up.
  3. NOTE: The directional arrow is necessary to ensure that the timing chain/belt (6268) can be reinstalled in the same direction.
  4. Loosen the timing chain/belt tensioner nut.
  5. Remove the timing chain/belt .

  6. Installation
    NOTE: Ensure that the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets (6256) and the seal plate are properly aligned. Ensure that the timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pump housing are still aligned. NOTE: A new timing chain/belt has three white timing marks that indicate the correct timing positions of the camshafts (6250) and the crankshaft (6303) . These marks will help ensure that the engine (6007) is timed properly. When the engine is properly timed each white timing mark on the timing chain/belt will be aligned with the corresponding camshaft and crankshaft timing mark on the sprocket. Because the white timing marks are not evenly spaced you will need to refer to the following illustration for proper timing chain/belt placement. There should be 40 timing belt teeth between the timing marks of the front and rear camshaft sprockets and 43 teeth between the timing mark on the front camshaft sprocket and the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket .

    NOTE: Verify that the camshaft timing marks are aligned with the timing marks on the seal plate, and that the crankshaft sprocket timing mark is aligned with the timing mark on the oil pump (6600) .

    Install the timing chain/belt starting at the crankshaft sprocket and moving around to the camshaft sprocket following a counterclockwise path. Do not allow any slack in the timing chain/belt between the timing sprockets. After all of the timing marks are matched up with the timing chain/belt installed, slip the timing chain/belt onto the timing chain/belt tensioner .

If you don't have the impact gun available, you could try getting someone to hold the cam while you put the box end of a wrench on the bolt and tap the open end. When tapping, I wouldn't use a hammer, it's too massive, use a small steel bar, like a 1/2 inch extension about ten inches long. The idea is to set up small impacts that loosen the bolt, without twisting the cam.

well not sure exactly why it wont line up use something to turn the crank and cam to appropiate position start sliding crank gear until cam gear is touching then start to push both at same time make sure your crank key and cam pin are bothin place On many OHV pushrod engines, the crankshaft sprocket is installed on the crankshaft nose and the crankshaft is rotated to position piston #1 at TDC. At this point, a mark stamped onto the crankshaft sprocket is pointing directly upward (toward the camshaft).
The camshaft sprocket is then temporarily bolted to the cam and used to rotate the cam until a mark stamped on the cam sprocket is pointing directly downward (toward the crankshaft). The sprocket is then removed from the cam (without allowing the cam to rotate).
The timing chain is looped over the cam gear, the mark on the cam gear is positioned directly downward, and the chain is looped around the crankshaft sprocket. When the cam sprocket is attached to the cam, the timing marks on the crank and cam sprockets should be pointing toward one another.
