MAF, IAT, MAP and Coolant Level Sensor Problem

Does anyone know if the MAF, IAT, MAP and Coolant Level sensors on a 2003 Mazda MPV, 3.0L has a shared wiring harness connector??? Having starting issues on the MPV. You can get it started if you vary the throttle position as you crank it, however, once started it idles at 2500 rpm and will die when you pull it down into gear. The code reader pulled codes for MAF both high and low, IAT both high and low, Coolant Level, and MAP sensor both high and low... Figure it is more likely to be a wiring harness or connector issue than four sensors going out at once. If anyone knows where I can find the engine control wiring diagram that would be great.

Thanks for the information. I will be looking at it over the Thanksgiving weekend. I also should have stated in my previous comment post that the intake system has been tested for leaks from the filter housing to the intake manifold and none were found.

They share the engine wiring harness from the computer (called the PCM) and a common ground circuit, which is referred to as the signal return. So I think you need to look for a defective ground.

I would suggest to replace the temp sensor only and after clearing the codes test again and I am sure the problems will be solved.

  • Anonymous Nov 19, 2011

If the problem in the Coolant Sensor, and it is pulling down the other sensors. Can it be unplugged to test to see if the other will read or is ground (signal return) daisy chained together??? Granted the Coolant Sensor is only a $12 part, but wondering if that could be an easy way to test if you know.

Look for a vacuum leak, or an intale snorkle that is not attached.

They do share a common reference voltage. You can get a wire diagram from All Data (just get a short term subscription and print the diagrams for safe keeping) or you can get the real factory manuals from www.diyrepairmanuals.com that the dealers use. They tend to be more pricey than the diagrams you can download, but they also tend to be much easier to use.

You might want to check the idle control valve/idle air control valve too why your at it. However, it does sound like a bad pcm or grounding issue. Good luck.

Coolant boiling in resevoir.

It can be faulty coolant temperature sensor. Its not sensing exact coolant heat temperature so its overheating then required level.

-----------

Get the coolant pressure tested, its definitely leaking coolant. You will need to get the coolant running line.

Changed maf sensor because of p0113 code stillhave problem after i changed sensor battery light came on fixed bad belt could belt have caused the pcm to not read the 5v it needed to wor k the iat sensor?

P0113 is air temp circuit high. The maf sensor (mass air flow) sensor just measures the amount of air entering the engine. The iat (intake air temp) sensor is the one that detects the temperature of the air.
Change that sensor, and the code should disappear. It is located in the intake manifold or air plenum.
