I own a 2004 Hyundai Sonata with a 2.4 L, 4 cylinder motor. I am getting a sever harmonic vibration that occurs when the engine is 1500 to 2500 rpm. No vibration at idle and significantly less vibration above 3000 rpm. The vibration occurs whether or not the car is in gear. Furthermore, the transmission has been recently worked on and the vibration is still there. The mechanic has said it may be something is touching something else, but not sure. Has anyone run into this problem?

Look for a vacuum leak somewhere. This is the most common problem for a high idle.

There are Two Balance Shafts on the 2.4. Did your mechanic also change the balance shaft belt when he changed the timing belt? If he didn't, you'll want to do that. Since you mentioned the old belt was missing teeth, those loose teeth flying around could have damaged the crank position sensor and sensor blade (tone wheel). Also, the front balance shaft (on the side of the engine nearest the radiator), has THREE different positions when the timing mark is lined up - here's the glitch - ONLY ONE of them is the correct one - this is probably where your vibration is.

Testimonial: "The car is going back into the shop on Wednesday of this week...I just spoke with the mechanic and he is going to look at all of your advice! Thanks!"

The battery being disconnected at one point, has nothing to do with
your trans issue. It may just seem like a coincidence, that the trans
just started to act up, once the battery was reconnected.First off, how
many miles does the car have, and have you checked the trans fluid
anytime rescently, to see if it's full?

2ltr kia majentis/hyundai sonata both same engines/gearboxes,you may need the crankshaft from the engine to mate the manual flywheel.I would buy the whole transmision as you just take one out and drop one in.dont forget the electronics as the mapping system is different.

Hi, in both engines the crank sensor is at the back of the engine by the transmission. The sensor is #10 in the diagram below and looks like the picture included.

I've been getting an ignition sensor failure/faulty connection diagnostic error (P0320) on my 2004 Hyundai Sonata v4 ever since I replaced the ignition coils, plugs and plug wires a few weeks ago. Also,...

code p 0320 refers to crankshaft position sensor (CKP)/ engine speed (RPM) sensor --circuit malfunction===causes wiring---CKP/RPM sensor--ECM
from your statement of moving coil wires and it temporarily fixed the fault , I suspect wiring failure to the tacho( RPM sensor) as the RPM sensor works of coil impulses
by moving wires you may be altering the circuit fault for the CKP sensor
take it to an accredited service center for a proper diagnosis
