Map lights 2002 Ford F 150 Supercrew FX4. Map lights quit working. Checked interior light relay, and battery saver relay as well as the fuse all are working and in order. Also the glove box light and the engine compartment light which are acccording to the hayes manual on the same circuit are still working. checked for power at the fixture, no power to the map lights. Both rear map lights work when doors are opened but do not work independently. HELP!!!!

Principles of Operation
Interior Lighting The interior lighting is broken down into two groups: the courtesy lamps and the illuminated entry lamps. Both lighting features interact with the courtesy light arbitrator. The battery saver is also listed in this section.
Courtesy Lighting The courtesy lamps consist of the dome lamp and/or map lights. The courtesy lamps can be activated by the GEM using the panel dimmer switch, or by any ajar door. The courtesy lamps will shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry feature is not active, or when the vehicle speed is greater than 8 kph (5 mph). The interior lamps will not be reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 5 kph (3 mph) and a new door open warning lamp switch signal is received. The inputs are:

• ignition switch position

• driver door ajar switch

• front passenger door ajar switch

• rear left door ajar switch

• rear right door ajar switch

• vehicle speed switch (VSS)

The outputs are:

• battery saver relay

• interior lamp relay

your problem is fix is easy your problem is the connection where the light bulb plugs into holder. Take bulbs out and clean plug contacts with a fine flat file, then make sure bulbs are pushed back correctly. And you problem should be solved.

my 2002 ford f150 4.2 would not hold idle so we changed the fuel pump and fuel filter and relay now the truck starts holds idle runs good at low rpm but when i stomp it it runs then stalls and picks up again.

The interior map lamps are powered buy the battery saver relay ( non serviceable relay ) Which is powered by Fuse #25 ( cab fuse panel ).
This is for the engine compartment and illuminated vanity lamps, as well as the map lights.

The FET ( Field-Effect Transistor ) shows the fuse #9 also on it. ( marked interior lighting ), which power the interior lamps ( door / switch ).

Could be a few things if both those fuses are OK.

1. The map / interior lamp combos are usually dual element bulbs, which means if the interior lamps ( door or dimer switch on headlamp panel ) are OK, it could still be a burn out bulb.

2. The FET is having an issue from a dead short ( blown bulb or dead short to ground ). Until the short is correct, the FET will not turn back on.

Start with checking Fuse #9 ( marked as Fuse #8 in the diagram, but that shows headlamp ), which is to the interior lamps, and drives 1 side of the FET.

Check to see is your brake lights are coming on when you press the pedal if they do not come on your brake light switch is bad or the fuse for the brake lights is blown

Removing a relay can cause all kinds of problems. The door ajar switch may have just need to be sprayed with a lubricant to unstick it so the lights would go off.reinstall relay to see if concers goes away.

You need to check the connection on the front of the master cylinder. This is the brake disengage for the cruise control. If it is wet this is the problem of the short. You need to replace the unit. This was a recall by ford. Now check the #15 fuse (5a) this controls the brake interlock switch. When you put the fuse in you will hear a click. This means you can now take the truck out of park. The lights will come on and the windows will work. If the windows don't work check the other fuses. By pulling them and replacing them made the windows work for me.

Check the the 5 amp fuse in the #15 position inside the vehicle. It's probably blown. When it does, you can't shift out of park, the electric windows don't work, the wipers don't work and the interior lights won't come on. If it's blown, look at the sensor by the master cylinder, it's probably cracked and saturated with brake fluid. Qick fix is to disconnect the sensor and replace the fuse. Then, asap replace the sensor.Neil
