Check to see if you are getting fire at the spark plugs first.

  • Anonymous Sep 27, 2008

If you are getting spark at the plugs then it is highly likely that the timing belt is not the problem.

Will turn over but wont start cant hear the fuel pump

If it hasn't run in a couple years, I would use a "test light" and check for power at the plug-in for the fuel pump. If ther's no power I would run a wire from the battery straight to the fuel pump itself. If the pump doesn't turn on you will have to replace the pump. If this starts it. If this makes it work you could put a fuse in the wire and hook it under the hood to any wire that has power when you turn on the key.

If you are trying to get it running again after 2 years it might be a good idea to pick up a Haynes manual for the car. They're only about $20 and have a lot of useful help for the DIYer doing average repairs. Hope this helps.

1997 outback wont start but turns over just fine. timing belt is fine as well as timing. almost starts when cold. compression is also fine. has spark.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Looks like that you have a faulty fuel pump. If the fuel pump is faulty it won't supply fuel to the engine which may cause it not to start though you have a good spark. I strongly suggest that you have the fuel pump replaced to resolve the problem.

Hope you find this information helpful enough and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

2000 Subaru Outback wont start.. no fuel.

Are your injectors firing into the engine? You can buy a test kit to double check that. Is there spark at the plugs?

I had the same problem sorta with my civic it turns out after doing timing belt water pump, and many gaskets i had a huge vaccum leak.

Also check your fuel lines to see if they are loosing pressure somewhere

New battery dead in 1 week.

It sounds like the problem is the voltage regulator. I would check that out first. Hope this helped.

1997 legacy outback 2.5 will turn over but will not start. replaced timing belt, plugs, wires and crank sensor. has spark, new battery and fuel pump works. what's the next area to focus on.

****,squeeze, bang, Blow. That is what is required for a motor to operate. If you are getting fuel and current for the bang then the only thing left is the squeeze and blow which would be your compression. Have to make sure that the timing belt was timed properly to operate the valves to allow for compression. Hope this helps and have a good day.

2001 chevy blazer not starting

I had this same problem with my 1997 Blazer, which required a fuel pump replacement as Nitrobike said. The sign to look for is when you get in the Blazer, turn your key forward to the accessory position, but not the start position. You should hear the fuel pump charging. It sounds like a hissing or whirring noise for about 2-3 seconds while it pumps fuel into the lines to prime the engine.

Fuel pump replacement isn't cheap, about $700-$1000.
