Sometimes because of non moving part inside of transfer case, elements stuck or gets slower to react against changes in mode. try to switch to another transfer mode in nuetral position and stopping. after switching to desired mode move few hundred meters.

if this does not help you may need to check linkage on transfer case.

1996 jeep grand cherokee limited all wheel drive

please post a real question.?

above is a statement , only.
like do i have it.
how can i tell, what I have, answer read the operator guide i the glove box. it tells you how to use it and when not to ,etc.
so no use 4wd until you learn to use it, it can be dangerous.
on most cars, like this the knob shows the word lock, for AWD systems.
if not there, its locked all the time, called part time 4wd.
if really curious. why not photo post your controls and ask.
option vary.

Grinding and whinning noise suddenly coming from driver side rear end on my 97 Grand Cherokee Ltd 5.2 it is 4wd all the time. Only does this when moving in gear

Have differential(s) serviced. Ensure correct friction modifier is added to gear oil. I have this problem every 40-50 or so thousand miles.

I have 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 limited. There are different 4WD modes available. I was wondering which 4WD mode is the most fuel efficient and how do you engage the different 4WD modes?

4 wd part time is the most fuel efficient becuase it only engages when the tires start to spin. to engage the different 4wd modes pull up on the lever next to the shifter and you'll feel it engage into to its respected modes. recommended you engage the 4wd while moving slowly except for 4wd low full time which you need to put the shifter into neutral before you can engage it. remember 4 wd low full time is needed when none of the other modes work.

My 1999 Grand Cherokee Ltd. (Quadratrac) is not going into 4WD when the wheels spin on ice/snow. Is this a big deal and require a Jeep Dealer to repair, or will my neighborhood garage know how to deal with...

ummm if you have the 1999 jeep grand cherokee (limited) Quadratic (like i have) that means the jeep is 4WD all time!!! it could be a problem with your tires be bald!!! I put snow tires on my Quadratic 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it works fine on snow and ice and the reason is because its never out of 4WD because its all time 4WD

99 jeep grand cherokee limited, have no 4wd. fluid was empty when i got truck filled case, still no 4wd. 242 quad trac. put vehicle on lift shifted into drive rear wheels only engage. any ideas?

If it was ever towed with the wheels on the ground (not dollied) then the transfer case is probably "burned out" and you will need to replace it. These models of jeeps are full time 4WD and MUST be dollied or towed on a carrier or rollback type truck. Unless they have manual locking hubs.
