I have a 2005 Chrysler 300, As I shifted the car from park to reverse I heard and felt a pop in the gear shift. The gear shift moves but the car is stuck in low.

Check the CV axles first. They can pop out and cause your noise and won't keep the vehicle from moving in park. Replace the axle/s if they did.

Actually the Shifter Interlock Lever needs replacing (MOPAR part #68088259AB). It's a little plastic piece that costs about $8.00 at the dealership. If you pop off the cover of the gear shifter, you can actually push in the plastic piece and shift out of park. Doesn't look like it'll be to hard to fix; part comes with a 11-step instruction sheet with pictures. I also have a 2005 300 with the same issue...

It can be issue with gears or problem with transmission and needs to be rebuilt. Also get the ****** fluid checked. If it's low, then such problems occurs.

The shifter needs to be inspected. If The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities.

I do not see your problem listed as a recall.

the nuetral safety switch may hav problems-its a screw in plug with wires down by the tranny pan--however inpec linkage 1st for ajustment-thats in the same area--use jackstands not a jack for safety

there is a sensor on the brake pedal that controls the lock on the gear shift if its failed you wont be able to shift from park to reverse ect .
if that doesnt work check you havent lost your gear oil but a would have thought you would hear the gears grinding in this case .hope this helps

Sounds like you need a new shifter assembly, or the brake switch. Most likely will be the shifter though if you can move it out of park with the override.

do the brake lights work? the system has a lock out that keeps you from moving out of park unless the brake circuit is activated, hence no brake lights no park lock out release, if the brk lights do work u most have a stuck or defective park lock out solenoid.
