I have a 1985 eldorado with a code 52 ( loss of voltage to ecm ) I need a trouble tree chart or some one who has had this problem to send me in the right direction . All three power leads to the ecm are hot

I have already replaced the ecm . I thought that also. But the other thing is this code caused a no start . As far as I can tell all the power is where it should be and all the grounds check good . I checked the wires from the dist. and all the fuseable links. Still nothing. I can't clear the code no mater what I do and it will not start

I have already replace the ecm with a new one. I also thought the new one had a problem so I found a good known used one and tried that still nothing. As far as I can tell the prom is the problem . But thats a problem in itself because no one has them and I can't find a new one .

I want to thank everyone for the help. I know about the dist gear problem. The dist in the car is less then a year old. But at the same time I ordered one last week and just got it today. Thats the last part of the puzzle. If that doesn't work It mash mellow time. Again thanks

There is a 4.1 or 5.7. So here is a 4.1, In the fuse panel is battery fuse this is hot at al times, regardless if the key is on or not. This power goes to the ECM Pin 10 and 15. If power is verified then your problem is internal of your ECM.(they are prone to have weak solder joint causing all sort of problem with the module)I have a 1985 eldorado with a code 52 ( loss of vo - 11_6_2011_5_29_28_am.gif

If you can verify that you have power going in and still no start then you will need a ECM.

Code 52 is CALPAK error. You need to inspect the pins and make sure its seated in its socket.Code 52 does not create a no start. Check for spark and fuel.

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2011

Well your right . I checked all the wires in the dist. Made sure I had no opens or shorts to ground. Installed a new ignition moudle and coil ( just for haha's ) Checked all the pwer leads to the ecm and grounds to the engine and body. Checked all the fuses and pins behind them . Then thought the new ecm was bad , that happens sometimes . Installed a known good one from a running car and still nothing . At this point I'm ready to just junk it. If it wasn't for the fact it's almost mint I would

Dont junk it.Lets get away from faulting the ECM. Lets check spark You need to know that the Cadillac eldorado is famous for its distributor gear drive failure so even if you have spark is it firing at the right time and location? So pull a plug wire have some one crank it as you hold the spark plug close to engine ground. If there is spark that is a good thing. If there is no spark is the distributor turning?Take the distributor cap off and crank the engine does the distributor rotor turn? If not you will need a distributor gear drive. So take out the number one spark plug out and bring it to its compression and see if the timing marks lines up at TDC. From there is the distributor at the number one spark wire to fire it?

Check the drive gear of the distributor. That can also set code 52

How do I fix codes 51 and 52 on a 1984 Eldorado Biarritz?

Those are mem-cal codes, unless you changed the ECM the PROM (a separate part inside the ECM) has gone bad or the ECM itself went bad, if you just replaced your ECM with a used one you need to swap PROMS just remove the 2 screws and remove the plate then the PROMS. If this doesn't workYour best avenue is to remove the ECM then go to a parts store that sell Standard Motor Products they have an R+R program and will repair your ECM and PROM and send it back. I hope this helps. Take Care.

What does check engine code 18 mean on a 1985 ford crown victoria? 5.0 engine

Code 18 is a spout circuit problem. You probably need the flow chart to check all of the components in that circuit which include the ecm, the temp sensor, and the engine control module among other things.

My 1995 Eldorado ETC will shut down (intermittent) at idle. All electrical power stops. Car does restart in after a couple of minutes. Battery cables are clean and tight.

You will need to find the codes that the car is getting. You can do this by entering diagnostics on the dash.
1. Turn the ignition switch ON. [Bruce notes: interestingly, the engine can be on or off]
2. On the cars up to 1995, on the Climate Control panel, press the OFF and WARM buttons simultaneously.
  • E -- ECM trouble code
  • P -- PCM trouble code
  • C -- Current trouble code
  • H -- History trouble code
  • NO X CODE -- No code present (X represents the system)
  • NO X DATA -- Communication lines are not operating (X represents the system)

1985 cadillac fleetwood 4.1 will die when you slow down

The 52 trouble code indicates a long term memory loss of the ECM (for example a replaced battery one day). It doesn't show on third pass (after the third -1.8.8) so it's intermittent and not a problem when you read it out.

I would advise you to clear the trouble codes (by pressing the off and high buttons on your climate controll while in diagnostic mode). To go in diagnostic mode just press off and warmer buttons on the climate controll as you probably also used to read out the diagnostic codes.

If this codes reoccurs there is a problem in the power supply to your ECM which will make it forget the correct settings. Result is it has to find correct settings for idle everytime and you will lack power as it has to find out how much gas can be injected at different RPM's. This happend to me when my battery was dying on me last winter. Replacing the battery (I couldn't start anymore) fixed this problem for me. If your battery is ok I would expect a bad wire somewhere.

Best off luck fixing your problem.
