Ignition control is effected by the PCM (powertrain control module). On the 3.9L V6 and 5.9L V8 engine, there is a module in the distributor that sends camshaft position information to the PCM called the distributor pickup coil. A similar component in other manufacturer models may be called the ignition control module.
