Vacuum leak sounds right. It might be inside the booster. Try plugging the line to the booster to see if it idles better. Or listen carefully under the dash for a hiss when you push on the brake.
thanks, i feel silly for asking this but which line goes to the booster, i have a diagram but it may as well be in japanese.
Sorry for the delay, as I went to bed. The booster is on the firewall in front of the driver. In other words, it is to the back right of the engine compartment as you look under the hood. You can see a picture of it here:http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/C...
The hose is on the tube that is pointing upwards.
thanks again, i checked it all out and it seems to be on solid with no breaks in the hose. could it be possible that the booster itself is bad. I didnt hear any hissing sounds and the idle seems to be normal.
Yes, inside is what I meant to say, sorry. So there is no hissing under the dash when you step on the brake? But the engine speeds up when you do it? Does the engine keep running fast as long as you hold the brake down? There is a diaphragm inside the booster that can tear, but you want to make sure that is the problem before replacing the booster, because they are expensive.
