Check & replace if necessary the fuse no.# 5 - F5 (5A) = Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch, placed in the fuse box / relay plate fascia 1. See pictures below:

If the fuse F5 is OK check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.

  • Anonymous Oct 30, 2011

First time novice. Thought I had chosen 2001, probably my mistake. Anyway I replaced any fuse relating to brakes, seems to be working ok now.

Audi A3 only inner brake lights working

You didn't mention the obvious, fuses. In many euro cars there are multiple fuses for each light circuit, side to side, and inside to outside, so check fuses, even if it looks good, they can still be bad. Switch with same amp and color fuse with any other same specs to narrow it down. Fuses can be tricky believe it or not, and I can't tell you how many times people overlook the obvious, even mechanics.
Good luck,

My brake lights dont work, i have checked the fuse and bulbs but all is ok, my car is an audi a3 1.6 99 model

Check the brake light switch (aka the stop light switch). I'm not familiar w/ Audi, but most cars have the switch located on the upper portion of the brake pedal, with an electric plug in connection. I couldn't find a listing for info on the a3, only the a4 and 6 for that year . That switch is approx. $40. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Audi a3 1998 automatic transmission cannot shift into gear

have you checked the brake lights for operation ?
if they don't work than it is your brake light switch located on the pedal support bracket.

Reverse lights not working.

Most likely. It sits on the front of the gearbox and has 2 wires going into it. Remove the plug and bridge the wires with a small piece of insulated wire. Turn ignition on. If lights are on change the switch

Audi a3 rear brake light fault

the dealer can fix this or any mechanic with a vag com interface, basically its a matter of programing the tailgate lights (both of them) to work as brake lights. the euro speck enables one of the other or both, same goes for the backup light. if you had a module replaced recently this could be the reason for the change, whoever installed it should be able to rectify this for you.

Brake lights stopped working on a 1993 audi a3 - the fuse has been checked is ok

Hi buddy, writting you from Brazil...

I may suggest you to check a switcher that is installed in front of your brake pedal. It may be not working properly. Try removing it and buying a new one (it is not expansive) and install the new one. I had the same problem in my Audi, 1.6, 2000, and now it is ok!

To remove the switcher, first, remove the cable, than remove the switcher, turning it around (not remembering if CW or CCW, you have to try).

Hope it may help you!

See you,
