My 2000 ford taurus seems to be misfiring while idling at traffic lights or sitting in traffic and engine light is flashing while this is happening. when i pull away from the light the engine sounds rough.it doesnt start out doing this in the morning, but after i have driven about 12 miles where I come to my first traffic light, that is when it starts. i seems to do ok as long as i am not waiting idling.

The flashing service engine light blinking indicates a Catalytic converter damaging event is happening , a misfire ! Don't driver it like that ,you don't want to have to buy a catalytic converter ! They can cost as much as 1,000 dollars . Flashing Check Engine Light CarMD

well..fuel injection systems are more than the electronic part. I suspect you are dealing with compression or injector fouling issues..

Check coil pack they can go bad even when not many miles. Also check plugs. Check the code see if it is a misfire. Vulcan or Duratec engine?

The oil light looks like a oil can and is red the check engine light looks like a engine or says check engine and if flashing this means further operation at current speed will ruin the catalyst converters they are getting overheated due to poor engine performance. flashing lites means dont drive .bad things will happen in motor. something emission related messing with exaust ' dont drive!!!! take to smog tech'

engine light flashes usually on fuel related issue...either a bad injector in a cylinder, misfire, spark plug, plug wires..get the code and narrow it down from misfire to lean running etc

NO U DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THE MANIFOLD OFF, TAKE YOUR TIME, U WILL SEE HOW IT GOES THIS ONE IS EASY COMPARED TO MOST.

i would check the fuel injector o # 5 cyl... if the injector is leaking it will foul the plug out and cause a skip. the next time it happens remove the plug and check for wetness. you may also be able to put a fuel pressure tester on, if so install the tester, turn the key on 2 or 3 times leaving the key in the on position at the end, do not crank the engine, watch the tester for a minute or so and watch for a pressure drop.

Disconnect the battery completely, try turning the key with the battery disconnected. Put the battery back together. The check engine light should be off now..
