Just cuts of and stalls.

While driving once it warms up the truck just shuts off similiar to turning the ignition switch off. all dash lights then come on as if turned to accessory. i have changed the ignition switch with no such luck. when it stalls everything flicks off then on almost as a power surge. im about to replace the pcm. thats what the dealership tells me is wrong. any ideas?

isnt the cps recall only for the desiel motors?????

  • Anonymous Oct 20, 2008

ok so if the cps is only for diesels then would my best bet just be replacing the computer. when i took it to the dealer it took 7 days to get back just from having them look at it. but the way it seemed was that they are just guessing. because they said the computer comes back with codes. just not saying anything is wrong. they did a bunch of tests not sure exactly what but they said that everything checks good. that is how they came to the conclusion that its the pcm thats bad?

2003 f150 5.4 v8 just stalls while driving, mostly on damp days. when try to restart the theft light flashes and odometer shows dashes. Also, when it first starts to stall while driving it feels like it is jumping out of gear and the gauges spin all the way to the end.

Acura mdx fuse box

When you say completely shuts off, do you mean all the lights go out and the gauges die? Or does the engine just randomly stall. It could be the PGMFI relay (which runs the fuel system) or the ignition switch. The PGM FI relay is electronic, and hard to verify that it is faulty if it is working during testing. I take a hair drier and warm it up, and see if it fails when it starts to get hot. It's under the dash, to the right of the steering column on the Accords I've worked on (should be the same wiring)

My daughters hand me down 1995 olds cutlass ciera has 103,000 miles. It was grandmas and well maintained. It has started shutting off while driving. No rhyme or reason....

One possibly/likely problem is that the ignition circuit is cutting out. I had this same issue on a car (malibu) and found it was an intermittent ignition switch connection. Replacing the ignition switch fixed it for good.
One thing that will really help you is to notice you dash lights when this happens. If the dash lights go out when the car stops, then this is it. If the dash lights (ignition) stay on, then you have another issue.

1996 aurora shuts off while driving w/o notice drives well have replaced lots of things this action occurs every few minutes

You need to get more information, but one possibility is that the fuel pump stops pumping. THis would result in a stall, but you dash lights would still be on. If, when this occurs, the dash lights go out, then we need to look in the area of the ignition circuits - ignition switch, etc.

How can i bypas passlock 2

You can bypass the passlock by cutting a yellow wire that goes to the top of the ignition switch. To do this take out the radio and look for 3 small wires that run together to the top of the switch. they are much smaller than the rest of the wires in the switch. Start the car and while it is running, cut the yellow wire. Once it is cut you will get a theft light on the dash. You can't get rid of the light. You can shut the car off once it is cut. Then tie in a toggle switch to the yellow wire and mount it under the dash. This is in case you need to reactivate the passlock. Such as if you disconnect the battery. You can also find more info out on the internet on how to do this.

1998 Honda Accord stalls intermittently

There was a recall related to this a few years ago. I know because my engine began shutting off on the interstate and other driving situations. You may be able to search for the recall or just take it in to a Honda dealership and tell them that you received a recall notice related to your ignition switch a while back and your car has been stalling out while driving. I believe a replacement of the ignition switch will fix your problem. I haven't had any problems since. The dealership shouldn't charge you anything for the repair.
