Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.
If the problem still occurs you should access the ABS & ESP ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored.
Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC stocked inside ABS & ESP ECU, and reset it.

The ESP system means the Electronic Stability Program. If the ESP lights on the dashboard permanently the ESP system is faulty.
You should access the ESP Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: brake pedal switch, front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ESP ECU, in other words reset the ESP system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.
Good Luck!

On my passat ESP warning is coming on. i have changed yaw rate sensor allready and ESP warning light is still coming on. what should i do? its Passat tdi 130, 2004. Thanx

You should have the OBD codes checked. This will determine the exact fault. The ESP light will sometimes come on if there is a problem with the ABS or with the steering angle sensor.
Good luck with this

My 2002 vw passat's esp light comes on when you tuen on the engine, car sounds awful and judders. If you stop the car for a min or so and restart it clears the problema nd drives lovely again. This can...

Sounds like you're not running on all 4 cylinders all the time. Could be one or more dirty spark plugs, bad ignition coils, etc. You'll ruin the engine when you don't get it fixed quickly, even after repairing you might notice a significant hp-decrease.

My advice would be to take it to the dealer asap and have them troubleshoot. Since they can read the faultcodes from the car's ECU, it should give a good pointer to the cause.

My 2002 vw passat esp light comes on when you turn the engine on

Hi Amanda
I have come up against this problem a few times before.
If the ABS. light is NOT on, and its the ESP light only that is on...your problem may well be a faulty Yaw sensor. This unit is fitted to the floor panel under the rear seat...in the centre. Another problem (although not all that common) is a faulty ESP switch. You should have an OBD code reading done to make sure. If a new YAW sensor must be fitted, the car must be driven with a full steering lock in both directions (left and right) at a speed over 20 Km per hour after fitting. If this is not done the light will remain on, even though it will now drive ok.
As for the price of this unit...Here in Ireland it costs around 140 euro. Hopefully its cheaper where you are. So better to have the codes read first.
I hope this is of some help to you.
Good luck with it
