The key nor fob will let my 1997 grand cherokee anti theft turn orr stayes armed

Normally you can't, it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You can't disable it or bypass it, you have to fix the problem, not find a way around it. The anti-theft system is very complex and programmed into both the Body Control Module, the Engine Control Module and various sensors. It is better to go to an auto electrician, or an alarm / radio installer to fix the issue, which is a lot cheaper than the dealership.

Having said all that, they is a simple fix to disable it in this link.

your anti theft device is activated,you need to lock and unlock your doors a couple times with the key fob,not the key,and then you need to put the key in the ignition and start it,if you dont have your key fob,call your car dealer to get a new one,they are programmed for each car only,you cannot bypass it.

skim is failing
you need tools to fix skim.
the car came with 2 key fobs, are both failing>?
try both.
if only one key , you already lost the battle.

does car run? (other shoe drops?) if not it has SKIS feature, not just and alarm.
next time read the operators guide and it tells you.
that you need them.
on newer jeeps its not an options at all.
or
open the WJ FSM book, chapter 8Q
turn to theft and security chapter, and read.
read page 3 there on disarming.

it takes 2 keys for the OWNER to make a 3rd key DIY
that is a fact.

if you lock the door with a metal key (drivers)
VTSS is not armed.
or the mech lock knob on door.

Anti theft system activated ? If you unlock this vehicle with the key , you by pass the anti theft system . Close everything and lock it with the key fob /and then unlock it with the key fob . If this fails try You Tube .

I work mainly from memory and was a bit concerned that I was giving you the wrong color!

if you havn't replaced the fuel pump yet that should do the problem

It doesn't recognize the key being used. It may be a faulty transponder in the key or a bad module that reads the key. If you have a second key give it a try. If you have the same result than the SKIM module may be at fault.

Hey mine did the same let it sit with the doors closed and key out for 15 minutes or so and the light of anti-theft should turn off on its own or if that dont work try unhooking your battery no problem
