How to program new keys for my 2005 impala - 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Transmitter Programming Procedure
Close all the vehicle doors.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold the door unlock switch.
While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on the transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of the transmitter.
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

I have 2005 chevy impala had keys made @ the home depot for 2.17 a key

Hi KC Kid, The short answer is you will not start the vehicle. The key for the new switch is not programmed for the unit in the car. The keys of later vehicles have chips which are programmed to send a signal to an induction coil fitted around the ignition barrel. The signal is then sent to the main management system and will open the gate in the unit allowing the car to start. Regards John

You may have a intermittent lock cylinder. You probably will need a complete lock cylinder and new key then it will need to be programed.

Hi, hopefully the 2005 manual will work for you. I does have instructions for programming the opener. Sorry, I don't have the 2001 manual.

Hi... Yoou will need to program the new Ignition lock cylinder.
This vehicle use a Theft Deterrent system....
The passlock sensor Is part of the cylinder assemble
Some times this prosses need to be done more than one time.
If the first FAIL..
.
Here is the prosses to program the new cylinder.
Be sure to have a good battery, or use a battery charged during the prosses..

Remove the old Ignition switch.
Install the new Ignition switch. with the new Passlock sensor.
Turn the key to on position and try to start a few senconds. them leave the key on run position.
For 10 minutes and NOT more than 11 minutes.
Them turn the key to OFF position for exactly 30 seconds.
Them turn the key to Run position 10 minutes or 11.
them turn back the key to OFF position for 30 seconds.
Them turn the key to Run position 10 minutes or 11,
Turn the key to OFF position and wait 1 minute, them try to start the vehicle.
If the car start you are DONE.

Yes the 2002 and 2005 are the same model and use the same lock.

2000-2005 Are all the same for anybody else needing similiar info.

did you change the key? if you have it more than likely needs programmed as most of the gm's have either a resister based immobilizer or a passlock system. If its the same key check that you have all the connecters back at steering column as you may have disturbed the vat's one.
