    Hi There

I have a C240 and started getting BAS warnings

I showed this to merc care who advised that they was no problem when they checked it on the system and that due to me driving in heavy snow it could have trigged the warning to come up

The problem has persisted and now everytime i press my brake pedal the warning comes up and my vehicle goes into ESP mode every so often

Now i have shown this problem to merc care who advised that i need to replace my BAS control u nit

But at the same time a friend of mine advised that BAS contriolunits very rarely get knackered and that it can be a sensor on my brake pedal that could be at fault

Now the sensor cost £30 or so and the BAS control unit £900 for new of £390 for used with 90 day warranty

Can any please advise as to a solution??????

I also have a C240 (2000 model) and I also have the BAS malfunction notice appear for my car. I called an RAC engineer to carry out a Diagnostics on my car and the BAS malfunction did not appear on his laptop. He said even if it did, only a MERC dealer service centre could reset the fault as it was a 'brake' issue and only they were allowed. My car does not brake any less or feel any less safe braking or driving, thus I feel the fault is a 'bug'. I hope to go to MERC and get the fault reset because it is becoming a pain as it is the only one showing on my dash!

SOURCE: Brake Assist System

The brake light switch is the most common problem. Cheap & easy to replace as a first point. If this doesn't fix it you will need to get the fault codes read from the ABS system. Hope this helps & good luck !

2002 mercedes warning light ESP came on . then lost gears forward res and could not get out of park ,, turned car off restarted and able to move car can some tell what to do .

The ESP and BAS warning lights may illuminate due to a failed brake light switch. Replacement of the failed switch should correct this concern. A recall on certain 2000-2002 models have been recalled for a related issue

Take it to your mechanic.

Altenator malfunction appearing on dash and saying

The car already tells you the problems. Unfortunatly, there are big problems. Go to a service station. You can't repair it yourself

What does 'BAS ESP' mean? its come up on my dash-board on my car

Brake Assist System, Electronic Stability Programme. It will need to go on a computer, the most obvious thing is the brake light switch, fault will need to be erased after fixed.

Mercedes Benz C180 Fault Message Brake Assist.Visit Workshop BAS

Hi there

BAS is the Brake Assist System and if there is a malfunction it would only come into play in an Emergency stop while applying full pressure. BAS applies full braking force because people tend to lighten up their pressure on the pedal in these situations. I would suggest that the best thing to do is go to a Workshop or Service Center and have it checked out. Please remember to put a good rating on my profile.

Kind regards
