Test guage by earthing out sensor wire. If guage I s faulty.. Replace unit. Test fuel rank sender unit using an ohmmeter. Watch rise and fall as sender arm is moved
If you meant fuel guage, most likely the sender unit inside the tank has a problem. To test, find the wire going to the sender and ground the wire briefly to see if guage needle goes up. If so, replace sender.
You will have to unplug the in-tank unit's connector, and figure out which wire is the fuel level sender. If you ground it,the gauge will go to full or empty(can't remember which)and it will go to the opposite extreme when you unground it.(Most likely the sender is bad,and if you are pulling out the in-tank unit,do yourself a favor and replace the fuel pump at the same time).
The fuel sender in located inside your fuel tank. it will most likely be screwed to the side or the top of the tank so you may need to remove your tank to gain access The fuel hose(s) go to the same place so simply trace the fuel hoses back to the tank. Some vehicles have an access panel in the floor of the van so check for this. To test the fuel gauge, turn the ignition key to ON ( warning lights lit but do not crank the engine), remove the wire to the fuel sender and ground it to the body of the vehicle - the fuel gauge should go tho the FULL mark if all is Ok
the cable going from the gauge to the sender unit is an earth return. if you take it off the sender unit wire if the gauge does read hot the sender and earth it out the gauge should go to the hot segment.dont leave this cable to earth very long do it quickly. if the gauge does read it is ok, there is no earth to the petrol tank. if it does not read it will be faulty. hope this helps.
Very Hard!!!! There are no specs on this, the only way out is to go to your nearest dealer and look at a sender unit and measure its resistance and compare the 2 sender units resistance. It should be measured in Kilo holms, the way to measure it is read the resistance when the floats at its 'lowest' point, and the resistance sould either increase or decrease when you move the float 'up', this depends on what resistance the fuelguage requires, to test if the fuel guage works,'take the positive cable that plugs into the sender unit, fuse it with a low ampeage fuse and connect it to body/chassis while key 'on' and check fuel guage, it must go to full position, there could be another problem, check cables for opencircuits, and check earth(-)connection to the sender unit, plse post to me for further assistance Mishdaman.....
